Do you need to purchase a 2nd xbox live account for a 2nd system?

My oldest son has an xbox one and a Gold membership. My 2nd son has an xbox 360 on a 2nd tv. Do I need to purchase a 2nd xbox live subscription for my 2nd son, or can he use the same account and Gold membership as my oldest? Thanks!

Hey there, junkyardd0g72. Yes, you can purchase the maps again on the 2nd console but you'll need to do so on a secondary account.

One other suggestion for you - which I did a few years ago.

-

Open a 2nd checking account (find a 'free' one) and get a 2nd debit card - do it at the same bank you now have an account with and link the accounts in your online banking (if you bank onilne). Then make that new card your credit card for Xbox/Live.

Then, keep next to no money on the 2nd card - only transfer money there form your primary account when you want to make an online purchase/renew Live. That way - if someone does get hold of your account & tries to charge items - they'll be denied due to
no funds available!

The 360 and Xbox One consoles are separate systems so the same gamertag can be used on both at the same time (this may not apply for backwards compatible games on the One).

However, if your 2nd son would like to play on the Xbox One then he would need to have his own gamertag created which would require a separate membership if he wanted to continue using that on the 360.

Have you done a license transfer to console 2? If not, was your profile signed into xbox LIVE on console 2? As I understand it, if you purchased the game on the 1st xbox then went to play it on the 2nd, you would need to have your profile on console 2 connected
to LIVE in order to access the content due to the licensing - unless you do a license transfer to the 2nd (in which case, your profile would need to be connected to LIVE on the 1st one to play it on that console).

i'm trying to find a local 2nd hand copy of the game or a 2nd hand console....

you don't need a new Live Gold for the 2nd Xbox

simply make it the Home Xbox for the account that has Gold and purchased the digital games and anyone can sign in with their own account and make use of them while the account that has Gold is signed in on the other Xbox
