Do you need to download the whole game

Tomb Raider Legend is an Xbox 360 game, that is backward compatible on the X1X they said they purchased, and were disappointed they had to download the X1 version rather than it playing out of the box.

I’m happy to answer questions about other games, but I’ll need more clarity as to exactly what the problem is and which games they’re trying to play

On every backwards compatible game? I don’t get it why not install the game from the disk
My internet sucks and I can’t get no better just to update the so called game ( tomb raider legend ) 12 hours. I just bought a Xbox one x thinking well let’s play some old games and the wind was taken out of my sails when I saw that I had to download the game.why even call it a update what a joke makes me won’t to return it.I got the Star Wars with the Xbox 36 gigs I don’t even know how long that will take to download .is there any other way to install the games to the hard drive ? And even if I buy a game from the store on a disk I’m still stuck DOWN LOADING

Yes, you need to install the whole game, due to the fact that the Blu-ray disc drive is too slow to play the games from. Some games do require an update to fix bugs which might have occurred during the time of release or will add new features to the games. Xbox 360 Backward compatible games need to be downloaded due to the fact the game has to have the emulator installed with it (if you press the menu and view buttons at the same time it brings up the Xbox 360 guide).

That's not strictly true. Xbox 360 games running on Xbox One or Series X|S are not emulated. The 360 and original Xbox games that the BC team made available are, essentially, rebuilt games. The BC team took these 32-bit PowerPC (For Xbox 360) engineered games and converted/recompiled/reverse engineered (or whatever other term you want to use) to be Xbox One native games, running inside an Xbox mini guide emulator or virtual machine.

I guess 'update' would be a completely wrong word for this, but since most console users are not technically minded, 'update' is probably the best word they could think to use without over complicating things. In the end it's all just semantics.

I read this person's post, I sounds like to me they were saying their Star Wars game to download takes 36GBs to update from there disc game, nowhere does it sound like they are talking about the Xbox 360 console. there are a few Star Wars games that are Xbox One titles, and a few that were Xbox 360 titles, I still have my Kinect Star Wars game, I haven't play it for a while, and the tomb raider legend is a game in the Xbox One library, I own a few of the Older Tomb raider games too, but I do prefer the newer Tomb Raider games over its graphics even in the Backwards Compatible Xbox 360 titles that run on the Xbox One X, a Few of my games work, and a few never made it into the Backwards Compatible games for example, I have at least two spiderman 360 titles, that work fine with an Xbox 360 but that and my transformers video games still require a real Xbox 360 to run, etc.. the Xbox one x doesn't run them, also was true for my sonic video games, worked on the Xbox 360 but not the newer console. anyway, I hope I understand what they were talking about that game pass breaking there owned Xbox One Disc games, that how it sounded to me from this post. if the disc is telling you have to download an update, and you start it yes you're going to need to complete the download before you can play it, that goes for both digital and disc based games, if your offline and you installed the disc, you can play the disc without updating, but once you start an update you have to finish it, say the size is 36GBs update. you will have to fully download it to your Xbox console in order to play it, anyway I hope I helped answer that question in the heading here.
