The ability to play with old friends and a stable community is almost a no brainer. Of course it would be nice. But from a technical standpoint, it would most likely mean a lot of extra work, for the devs, for Microsoft,etc.

Bungie explained once why Destiny did not allow for cross generation play saying that those playing on the current Gen consoles would have an unfair advantage of the previous Gen due to advanced draw distances, increased pixel count, yada yada. This, I
think, is probably the strongest argument against cross generation play.

There is no technical reason it can't be done, they had cross-platform play between the 360 and PC after all.

Far more likely the reason it wont be done is that they want to encourage people to upgrade to an Xbox One.

I believe due to different hardware between the two it just isn't possible.

The One wont remain cheater free for long now that the USB storage update is out. Now the modders don't have to take their console apart to get at the game files and saves.
