Do you consider the X a new generation?

Discus and support Do you consider the X a new generation? in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; If a resolution boost doesn't make a console next gen, why is Xbox 360 last gen? Could you please answer that for me? Wait, was one of your answers... Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by brandiesel1, Sep 1, 2017.

  1. Do you consider the X a new generation?

I have no problem answering that. Thank you for asking the question. To respond I will again draw to the 1080 vs 1080ti comparison. Given you own a high spec gaming PC I'm sure you'll be able to understand.

A GTX 1080 has 8gb of DDR5x RAM. The 1080ti has 11gb of DDR5x RAM. The latter has more RAM and can run games at a higher frame rate at higher resolutions. Yet at their heart both cards are still the same beast, they are still a 1080. The one is just a better
    version of a 1080.

The same is true for the Xbox One X. Yes it has more RAM and a overclocked processor, yet at its heart it is still an Xbox One, it's just a better version of the Xbox One. Just like the Xbox One S is a slightly better version of the original Xbox One.

Hopefully I've been clear enough in my explanation.

  2. And benchmark is 11000 or 13000 - which in percent is hardly noticable.

PassMark Software - Video Card (GPU) Benchmarks - High End Video Cards

X1X is more dramatic over X1 in this sense. About 1.3 TFLOPS increased to 6 TFLOPS.

Looking at computers I always look at least twice benchmark value on cpu, to really notice difference.

So you really ahve some headroom if running the same thing.

But this will hardly be the case in real life - since you will stuff the game with 2-4 times sizes of everything needing to be shuffled around.

What I fear of this X1X is that it will go overboard with donwload sizes of everything, even patches.

And the big Q is really - what will BC be like, download every X1 game in full even if having on boxed disk - running on X1X?

That is what BC is like on 360 to X1 - and then download sizes were tiny in comparison.

Install times already long on X1 where BD drive only produce 20 MB/s(roughly 200 Mbps, like superfast internet).

What will happend to this - will every X1 also suffer from installing 4k stuff?

When X1X sales are outnumbering X1 and number of console becoming close to the same - it will probably be like next gen in that devs bother less giving X1 gamers as good experience as now.

But this is like 3 years from now - at least. Devs and publishers don't care what resolution games run in - they go by sales only.

And what can be expected is more game trouble, bugs, freezing and such - since there are more versions of hardware now. There is only 24 hours a day and devs need to sleep and cannot run as much on every version of hardware.

By then X1X is more than 50% out there I think Sony will have some monster PS5 released. And the race goes on.....

It isn't a next gen console for one very big reason.

You wont be able to go into a shop and buy an Xbox One X only game, if this was a next gen console you would. Going forward all games that work on the Xbox One will work on the Xbox One X.

Previous generations console have not been like this, with the PS1 & PS2, even though you could play PS1 games on the PS2, you could buy PS2 games that only worked on the PS2.

  5. But yes but no but whatever. Ms are again trying to change the console universe, this time with hardware updates instead of an add on gimmick. A wiser move would be to get rid of the Xb1 name all together, release this as a next gen console that is also
backwards compatible. Basically the same deal as the PS2, hey we have a new console and it's also backwards compatible.

  6. Not tech savvy, but for what it's worth. I wouldn't consider the X next gen but rather what current gen should have been from day one.

Side note: No one should use the X1 support forums as the last time I visited, it's pretty much a ghost town were it could take what seems eons for someone to even read your posts. These days I use support as its quicker and the people are not only exceptionally
patient and friendly but genuinely interested in helping you to resolve issues.

Rant: Borderlands the handsome collection. Grrrr... I have all the dlc, so why does it keep prompting me saying that I don't?

Umm.. Also need help def the 72 bosses and OP 2-8 Digi peak if anyone who don't mind carrying a less than capable gamer not only throgh the fight but sharing the spoils.

They've done this already! Why else would they bring out a PROJECT SCORPIO themed console and ditch the branding if it wasn't for people asking for a new-gen experience? It might *look* like an Xbox One X, and *play* like an Xbox One X, but there's no mistaking
the livery. It's called "Project Scorpio" for a reason (although what that reason might be is anybody's guess) Do you consider the X a new generation? :p

Do you consider the X a new generation?

If they did release it as a next gen console it wouldn't be powerful enough.

The Original Xbox was roughly 7.3 GFLOPS

The Xbox 360 was roughly 240 GFLOPS

The Xbox One is roughly 1.2 TFLOPS

As you can see the increase from Original Xbox to Xbox 360 was massive, and it felt like it at the time. Games suddenly looked stunning and vibrant with AI that was on a different level to Original Xbox games.

The jump from Xbox 360 to Xbox One though is smaller, and as many people have said this generation, there are games out on the Xbox One that look similar to the Xbox 360.

If Microsoft called the Xbox One X a Next gen console, Sony would release the PS5 in a few years time and it would blow the Xbox One X out of the water.

Better to basically copy Sony, release a mid-gen upgrade and then in two or three years time release a true next-gen console.

  10. MS have said that this is the end of console generations, presumably they will use the apple model and release consoles every so often with the same accessories and OS until the older consoles become obsolete. I hate this idea but I think it's the way it's
going so you're all sort of missing the point.

I know with Intel processors they go with generations more quicker than Xbox. Take a look at Skylake 6th gen 2016 and Cabbylake 7th gen 2017. There is pretty much no difference between an i7-6700k and i7-7700k except for a 0.2-0.3Ghz speed improvement. Yet
they're different generations. There's only a year a part from them. But they're different generations. Key features is the later may have different and more features like a slightly faster clocked or more features. Now if we refer that example to the Xbox
One, it's easy for customers to think it's a new gen console. The original Xbox One has like what 1 or 2 teraflops computing power. Where as the X has 6. The X has a 4k Blu-ray disc drive, not some cheap Philips drive on the original model. The original model
is not designed to be placed upright due to choice of disc drive.

As for games, Minecraft, Screamride, Forza Horizon 2, GTA V, and Zoo Tycoon, to name but a few, both are on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Xbox One games depending on publisher, will have Xbox One X optimizations. Forza Horizon 3 will be one of them with HDR. Final
Fantasy XV will also be getting Xbox One X optimizations. Does the original Xbox One have HDR optimizations thingy?

Of course there may be a lot of hype about it. Especially for Xbox fans who are sick of loosing the console wars which refers to hardware specs and resolution as important and with the competition always having a lol. It is without a doubt the most powerful
gaming console announced out of Nintendo and Sony and what Microsoft has ever created.

Yes they could call it a next gen console and Sony could blow it out of the water when they eventually get around to announcing and releasing their next console, but then what is the price of that console going to be compared with the X. High end PC's can
easily cost $2k. Yet we get good specs for only $499. It is without a doubt, a MAJOR hardware revision to the original Xbox One. And I'm sure I don't need to repeat all the specs again.

It's like with human generations and family generations. Each new generation may have new skills or unique and special attributes and competencies. And that reflects well off the X. 4k Blu-ray disc player. Architecture marvel of a cooling system allowing
it to be "the smallest Xbox ever". And a major improvement with the memory, bandwidth, GPU clock speed, more GPU cores, faster GPU cores, and GFLOPS.

Your right that when a new system launches you get game X one the old system and also game X on the new system. But those two games although the same game and coded totally differently and will not work on the other system.

That is not the case with the Xbox One X, Microsoft have already said there will not be any Xbox One X only games, only Xbox One games. yes the Xbox One X will have graphics features that aren't on the Xbox one or the Xbox One S, but the Xbox One S can

Do you consider the X a new generation?

I think some people are missing the full picture. We're not talking about them releasing a slightly tweaked console. The Xbox One X is a M-A-J-O-R--H-A-R-D-W-A-R-E--R-E-V-I-S-I-O-N. The info I stated in my last post in this thread, it's easy for people to
call it a next gen. Take a look at Intel's 2016 and 2017 processors. They're different gen. They're not the same gen just cause the play games. Simulation games can be more CPU bound than GPU bound.

Xbox One is MORE than just gaming. Why did Microsoft call it Xbox ONE? Cause they want it to be an all in one multi media device. Though gaming remains the forte. But note they did not say gaming remains their ONLY forte. Can Xbox One and Xbox One S play
4k Blu-ray disc movies? no. Can Xbox One X play 4K Blu-ray disc movies? YES. Ah, lets call it next gen..... Xbox One original is not designed to be placed upright (due to choice of that Philips cheap drive). But the S and X models are.

Xbox One has backwards compatibility. So saying Xbox 360 games can't run on Xbox One isn't 100% true. Microsoft already has games including disc game COD BO2 (Black Ops 2) which plays on Xbox One! However Xbox One games may not be playable on Xbox 360 due
to, no, it's not a game matter, but, a hardware matter. The X boasts a major hardware revision of the Xbox One (which is too significant to call it the same generation). With the X, you could run games with less blurry, more richer graphics. And this is what
young people who are the future of Xbox, tend to like.

Game developers will notice the difference with the X compared with earlier revisions. And may release optimization patches for their games which will work for the X, but which *will not work for the S and original versions* due to hardware limitations of
the S and original. Yes the S has HDR. However GDDR5 is better for gaming than DDR3, which is something which the S and original versions, use. Only 5GB DDR3 @ 68G/s bandwidth is available for gaming on the original and S. However with the X, 9GB GDDR5 @ 326GB/s
bandwidth, will be available (and the remaining 3GB which makes up the rest of the 12GB memory, will be reserved for the system). Xbox One original and S's hardware is too weak to run games native in 4k. However the X has less of a challenge in coping with
this task, than the S and original models.

    You R-E-P-E-A-T-Y-O-U-R-S-E-L-F.

People can call it next gen but it isn't.It can only plays current gen game and BC titles, same as all Xbox one consoles.

If Team Xbox (and Sony) didn't use the words "next gen" for their mid gen consoles, there is a good reason for that.

Open some books (or internet),human generations, console generations,PC generations, smartphone generations,ect...Are all different and follows different rules and definitions.

Based on numbers of games running native 4K on Scorpio,it doesn't seems that easy. Some old titles + this year 1st party line up.

Looks like Scorpio and 4K are similar to Xbox one and 1080p (except that Xbox one never was sold as a 1080p machine).

Nothing wrong,i can live that but it's not like Scorpio (or PS4 pro) will change the world of videogames with their "supermegaextra" horsepowers and resolutions.

Do you consider the X a new generation?

And add to that, a 4k Blu-ray disc player too. Not that cheap Philips disc drive which is on the Xbox One original. Microsoft wants Xbox One to be more than just a gaming console, even though gaming remains it's forte. The X also takes up less room/space
than the original, and it can be placed upright (cause it won't have the cheap Philips disc drive).

People can understandably call it next gen. It thrashes the competition in terms of hardware specs. And since the competition has been talking about specs all these years, it's great Microsoft are shoving specs at the competition. It makes Xbox fans proud
the competition can't say your console has weaker specs. Console wars have been going on for a long time.

When Xbox One came out, A LOT and I mean A LOT of people, complained about it having slower DDR3 memory and that it looked like a VCR, this thing Generation X people would have used. Only a small percentage of people participate on the official feedback
site and on this site too. Feedback can also be expressed through other social media including YouTube and Facebook etc.

Since the Original Xbox One was made in 2013 and the X is being manufactured this year, 4 years later. I class that as a new generation. And if you compare all the hardware specs between them on a spreadsheet, you'll see why people may want to call it a
new generation. It's hardware is A LOT better than the original. A device with better hardware will function more better. Software/UI will be more responsive due to the processing power. And it will boot up and shutdown more quicker.
