Do you consider the X a new generation?

I do despite what MS say.

MS have been very careful about their words. If they say it's a new generation it will make people who've just bought a One S feel alienated so that's why they've been wise to say all consoles are in a family.

How can it not be considered a new generation? Is it because it plays older games? If the SNES played original NES games would you still of called it "next gen"?

The power of the X is so much more than the S that it is like a generational jump.

Just want to hear your thoughts and to be honest I'm just trying to create something to discuss since the discussion forums get inundated with support questions. That's just down to bad design.

I'm guilty of restarting levels just to get it right. It is not cheating because I can choose play how I want to.

 

I do in a way but difference here for me is usually a new gen has games that cant played on previous consoles, if that is now a thing of the past then yes it is next gen in my eyes, either way ive got my order in and looking forward to seeing what it can

That's a good point playing games that others cannot do. I think that is a thing of the past.

 

Its going to be interesting seeing the difference when playing games like forza 7 & shadow of war on the S, and then playing them on the X a few weeks later

 

Next gen got new games,new hardwares,new visions.(and now backward compatibility)

Xbox 360,PS3,Wii were all from the same generation and got different release dates and hardware power.

Scorpio is just a mid gen not next gen.It can play past and current games that's all.

I don't know what hardware will require next gen games but i'm pretty sure Scorpio won't be powerful enough to run these games the best way possible.(it already got its own limitations with current gen games (checkerboad,upscale,frame rates).But It should
be able to handle current games better on consoles.

Scorpio and PS4 pro just artificially expands current generation but have nothing to do with next gen hardwares and games.

 

I already play at Forza 6 in 4K (upscale) and it's good.(same goes with my other games).Got much more details.But expected with a resolution 4x higher.

But what really shine for me it's HDR (on Horizon 3,it's amazing).i hope to see more games with HDR and also well optimise.

 

A big draw back about the X is it's CPU which has a low clock speed of 2.3Ghz. Games especially simulation games, tend to be more CPU demanding than GPU. Take at look at PC gaming. However it does have a mid to high end, GPU (326GB/s bandwidth).

Yes, there is a significant increase in hardware improvement and revision, between the original Xbox One, and the Xbox One X. And I don't need a spreadsheet listing all the stats of both.

As for games, Final Fantasy XV looks very blurry and low res upscaled to 1080p on Xbox One original console. However on PS4 Pro, it looks much more bling. I use to have a PS4 Pro for a few months and speak from experience. There will definitely be at least
some graphical and processing improvement on the X regardless if developers support it or not. That sort of hardware potential with the X can work wonders. Faster start ups, launching apps faster thanks to the better processing power of the X. It's like if
you buy a $50 laptop and a $2500 laptop. The UI is going to function more smoother and software is going to function more smoother on the device with better specs.

Is it a coincidence that EA is releasing the Sims 4 to consoles the same month the X is due out? Is it a coincidence that Microsoft stated at E3 2017 that Final Fantasy XV will be Xbox One Enhanced, hence Square Enix will be making optimizations for it,
even though Square favours Sony. Is it a coincidence that Frontier will be rolling out Jurassic World Evolution thingy game some time next year. Frontier have been known to make games for Xbox and not for PS. Examples are Screamride, Zoo Tycoon, etc.

Perhaps google the definition of Generation. Which could be compared to humans and generations (our parents, grandparents, kids, grandchildren, etc. Each could be from the same family. But they are a different generation despite
being from the same family line).

Xbox 360 never had this major of a hardware revision in the Slim and E models. But there is such a major hardware revision between the original and the X, that people can also justify calling it a next gen console. After all the
golden rule in business "the customer is always right".

Much like the PS4 Pro the Xbox One X is the .5 of this generation. A boost over what has come before but essentially the same thing. Think a GTX 1080 vs a 1080ti, the same graphics card, it's just the latter is a bit more powerful.

Is the game going to be hurt by running at 1080p and 30 frames per second on the base Xbox One compared to 4K (maybe faux K) at 30 frames per second on the Xbox One X? A resolution boost doesn't make it a next generation system.

 

That's the thing though. It is a much higher spec compared to the One than the Pro was to PS4.

 

The CPU remains the same but is overclocked to a higher clock speed of 2.3Ghz. However the memory and GPU are not the same. They are much more better. 12GB GDDR5 with a bandwidth of 326GB/s (vs. the original's mere 8GB of slower DDR3 with a BIG difference
of a far more slower 68GB/s bandwidth. Xbox One does have ESRAM but even that is slower than GDDR5 and it's extremely minimal ESRAM memory (32-400MB). The X gets 12000MB of 326gb/s bandwidth. A GPU with that kind of bandwidth is classed as high end. High end
doesn't mean it has to be an 1080ti.

I've tried Final Fantasy XV and the Xbox One is blurry and looks like it was upscaled from 480p with poorer textures. However the PS4 Pro has better textures and it looks more 720p or 1080p native. Textures and anti-aliasing are also much better. Since the
X will have better hardware, it will be able to run games more better.

The X will overall function more better than the original and S Xbox One's due to the faster clocked CPU, more memory that is 3-5x faster than the original Xbox One. It will have 9GB of memory available for gaming instead of 5GB. While 1080p gaming doesn't
use much memory, 4k does and the extra 4GB of faster bandwidth memory will be of at least some benefit.

Now lets talk about the cooling. Innovative first for gaming consoles. This type of cooling allows Microsoft to design a console which is smaller than the Xbox One S.

If a resolution boost doesn't make a console next gen, why is Xbox 360 last gen? Could you please answer that for me? Wait, was one of your answers more memory? The X has that.

 

And add to that, a 4k Blu-ray disc player too. Not that cheap Philips disc drive which is on the Xbox One original. Microsoft wants Xbox One to be more than just a gaming console, even though gaming remains it's forte. The X also takes up less room/space
than the original, and it can be placed upright (cause it won't have the cheap Philips disc drive).

People can understandably call it next gen. It thrashes the competition in terms of hardware specs. And since the competition has been talking about specs all these years, it's great Microsoft are shoving specs at the competition. It makes Xbox fans proud
the competition can't say your console has weaker specs. Console wars have been going on for a long time.

When Xbox One came out, A LOT and I mean A LOT of people, complained about it having slower DDR3 memory and that it looked like a VCR, this thing Generation X people would have used. Only a small percentage of people participate on the official feedback
site and on this site too. Feedback can also be expressed through other social media including YouTube and Facebook etc.

Since the Original Xbox One was made in 2013 and the X is being manufactured this year, 4 years later. I class that as a new generation. And if you compare all the hardware specs between them on a spreadsheet, you'll see why people may want to call it a
new generation. It's hardware is A LOT better than the original. A device with better hardware will function more better. Software/UI will be more responsive due to the processing power. And it will boot up and shutdown more quicker.

 

Can you play Uncharted 4 on PS3 ? Can you play Forza 6 on Xbox 360 ?
