Do Xbox 360 Gaming Headphones Play Game Sounds?

So I had an Xbox 360 headset, the one with a Mic and one headphone. A few days ago, the Mic kept cutting out and it was time to replace it with something else. And so I thought, how about Full Over-Ear Gaming headphones with a built-In Mic that were
made for Xbox 360? So I went on Amazon and EBay and looked for some. Then I did some research on some forums and found out that the port on the controller is for Voice Communications ONLY. So basically, I need a separate Mic for my controller and headphones
for game sounds directly plugged into the TV. in this case, buying headphones with a mic would be a waste because I would only be able to hear voice chat in them and game sounds would be muffled. Then I was thinking, "Why would they sell Pro Xbox 360 gaming
headphones if they only play voice chat?" then I looked and found there are other little ports next to the one in the middle on the Xbox 360 controller and thought maybe the headphones had something to do with that. So my question is: Can I get Full gaming
headphones with a Mic and hear both Voices AND game sounds in them? Please help me as I can't afford to buy expensive headphones only to have them not work correctly.

game audio through controller/headset

Can you hear in game music/sounds by connecting headphones to the controller like you can on the PS4?

If you can't, can someone explain gaming headphones/headsets to me? Do you just plug them into the optical jack on back of the Xbox 360/Xbox One? Can you hear just game sounds or also game chat? Any recommendations for getting a good one?

Headpones recommendation

Hi everybody,

I am planning to get XBox 360 with 250 GB HD and I am also looking to buy good gaming headphones with microphone so any recommendations are welome.

I have heard that Razer does good gaming headphones but I am not sure if they can be used with XBox 360 or are they for PC only.

I would need headphones with microphone as I guess you cannot use headphones and MS wireless headset at the same time.

I use both if it is my first play of a game or a game that has Dolby Atmos I will use my headphones. If it is a game I play a lot I will play on the THX Sound System. Both are high quality but I do like more atmosphere of headphones, even though sometimes
those sounds make me jump

I'm having the same issues with my xbox. Someone said it would be the soundcard and I need to send the Xbox off to be checked which costs a fortune! I can't see how the soundcard can be an issue when I can hear the music through headphones when I plug them into the controller.

I've reset the TV, reset the Xbox. Can be playing a game with sound. Then go to the dashboard there's sound. Go into another game, no sound (unless through headphones) come back out of the game with no sound and there's sound on the dashboard. Go back into the game that had sound and the sound is still working.

Hard reset the Xbox, turn it back on. Go into a new game, sound doesn't work (unless through headphones). Go back to dashboard and sound is working. Go back to first game that had sound and that game still has sound.

It's so annoying and I don't seem to be able to speak to anyone about it

Thanks for reaching out to us here on the forums with this situation. I understand you're having issues with your headphones sound no longer playing. If you were to plug the headset into say another device (smartphone, PC, etc...) do the headphones work
there? What kind of headphones are we talking about? Have you tried the headphones on another controller at all? Is it all audio that is not playing from the headset or just the game sound or party chat sounds?Let us know a few more details to determine how
to best assist you with this situation.

Is your console enrolled in the Insider Preview Program?

When you go to the settings under Display&Sound, do you have the console set up to also play game sound through the headphones? If so, do you use any spatial surround modes like Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for headphones?

If you set it to Dolby Atmos for Headphones, did you actually purchase Dolby Atmos for headphones? If not, you could only try Dolby Atmos for headphones for two weeks. So check the settings if the headphones work with Stereo or Windows Sonic.
