Do we know if Microst plans to increase the resolution to 1080p?

Ryse is next gen. Considering getting from 480p (xbox/PS2) to 720p (360/PS3), a 2x increase in resolution, took a 50x increase in computing power, there shouldn't be any expectation from xbox one and PS4 to render at 1080p. Since 1080p is 2x the resolution,
and very few games rendered at 60Hz this generation, you're looking at 4x the power, just to stay where we are graphically at 1080p and 60Hz. Who cares if Ryse didn't quite make 1080p. There were plenty of games this generation that didn't make 720p, and neither
the 360 or PS3 could render something like Ryse at 1600x900. Just be happy it's higher than 720p.

There is no "1080p patch" AFAIK. The Xbox One is already capable of playing games at full 1080p and there are a number of games that run at that resolution including Forza 5. It is possible for game developers to issue patches for games to increase the native
resolution, but console game development always requires compromises based on hardware power, maturity of dev tools and drivers, game engines, experience of the developers, and prioritising aspects other than resolution, so I wouldn't really expect to see
any patches that make existing sub-1080p Xbox One games render at native 1080p.

So the Xbox will not do 144hz. You can increase your refresh rate to 120Hz for 1080p and 1440p resolutions. Your display must support 120Hz
over HDMI. Be careful as a lot of monitors only support higher refresh rates on the Display port and not on HDMI.

My advise would be to set the monitor at 60hz 1080p.

I have a 1080p tv that accepts 1080p, so this issue doesn't affect me. But not having a 1080i option is a pretty significant feature the Xbox One is lacking. 1080i is better than 720p, unless the game's native resolution is 720p or less. 1080i is the
same resolution as 1080p, just with half the frame rate. It's essentialy 1920x1080 at 30 fps. Everything will be as detailed as 1080p when there's no or little motion, but there will be more blurring during motion. How much more depends on the TV and its
deinterlacer, but it's usually not that severe. A lot of people probably wouldn't even notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p. For a game that's natively higher resolution than 720p, 1080i would always be a better choice than 720p. The small increase
in "motion resolution" wouldn't be worth giving up all those pixels.

Just so everyone in this thread knows, PC games are not hitting 4,000p. They are hitting 4K or 2160p, 16x the resolution of 1080p. The highest planned resolution available on the market is 4130p or 8K, but the ridiculous processing power required to render
at 8K along with the cost of monitors means no game supports it.

Xbox One could push out 4K (30fps, due to HDMI cable restriction) on games like Pong or Tetris, but won't due to the fact that it would then have to upscale 1080p games to look good on a 4K display.

Shame Tetris Xbox One is 1080p 60fps, they should have supersampled it.
