Do voice commands work on new the Kinectless XB1?

I just ran a test - it took me a solid 20 seconds (not including startup) to get signed in and have it sitting idle and ready to go on the Xbox 360 dashboard. However, on the Xbox One, I was signed in ready to go on the homescreen within 5 seconds (AND it
included startup). That to me, proves that the Xbox One is faster.

Lloydy, thank you for being on-topic for once. I have to say though, I disagree with you - at least on the Xbox One. The Kinect is here to stay because of how much effort MS put into it; it would be foolish for them to undermine their own efforts and devalue
their own product. In all likelihood your scenario of using the mic for voice commands will come with MS' next console, if ever. I don't think it will though, because it's far too convenient to use voice commands without having to put on and wear a microphone.
The idea that I can control the console hands-free from a different room and without the feeling of being tethered to something or to have a weight on my head is 1 of the biggest selling points of the Kinect sensor. Unfortunately, I don't think enough people
realize just how useful that really is until they try it for themselves. IMO, anyone who still doesn't like it after they try it, is simply the kind of person who prefers physical contact (they like to touch and feel things; to have a sense of weight in their
hands).

I would also like to reiterate that the Kinect voice commands are NOT essential for navigating the Xbox One UI - if it was, they never would've made the Kinect sensor optional. All it takes is a bit of knowledge regarding navigation, and that will always
come with time as everyone grows more comfortable with it - and they will; you'll see.

 

GG, I was referring to mic usage just for the non-kinect bundle. If you have kinect, there would be no need to use the mic for voice commands. There would be no need to wear the mic, simply have it switched on.

I was suggesting it for the new bundle. The latest advert (Aaron Paul) shows off "xbox on", "snap", "record that" etc features, but at the end shows the price of the kinectless bundle. People might buy that bundle and like to use those features.

 

Lloydy, they show those features in the Aaron Paul commercial to entice you to "upgrade" your purchase. It's similar to a car commercial that shows you all of the features, but says "starting at..." or when you upsize a combo at a fast-food restaurant when
the their standard starts as a small. They give you the cheap option, but entice you with the additional features to get you to spend more - it's a marketing tactic and nothing more.

I said "People might buy that bundle and like to use those features." Not "I don't understand".

 

Do voice commands work on the kinectless xb1? No.

Will they in the very near future? Yes.

Microsoft are listening to the customers. And make changes accordingly. And customers seem to be asking for features that the competition already have.

Look at the changes that Microsoft have made over the last 12 months or so. All these changes to the xbox one vision, or xbox policies have all been changed to match the competition. Including:

-DRM

-24 hour sign in

-optional camera

-streaming

-apps behind Gold paywall

-free games each month

-discounts on games

-Indie policy

-focus on games, not TV at E3

-etc

Is it beyond the realm of possibility that M$ will introduce mic support for voice commands? NO.

But people here said I was wrong about how the sales would go. And I wasn't. People here said I was wrong when I said M$ will definitely announce a kinectless sku before the end of E3. And I wasn't.

don't think so. It's sad too since there is literally no reason to require users to have fancy camera to use voice controls. MS could have easily enabled voice commands to work with any compatible headset, but they wanted to make Kinect seem more appealing
as voice controls are it's most useful feature.

 

As it stands it is more of a programming issue. The mic system is set differently that the path the kinect takes to function. However if set correctly the kinect can be used as a mic. It is possible, and likely that there will be a function later on to use
the mic with kinect function (more so considering the mic adapter release with extra functions) but still unlikely soon.

 

The Kinect can be used as a mic if set correctly, Karch? It already is! *SMH*

 

I find it funny that all the ppl who bought an X1 with Kinect are like "GET A KINECT"....b/c they got stuck with one and now they want everyone to be stuck with one.

I'm 'stuck with one' and i wouldn't change it for the non kinect version, even if i'll never use it for games

No one is stuck with Kinect. We can easily sell it, give it or throw it away. I choose to keep it.

 

It's not no reason. Lots of ppl hate Kinect. The guys at Inside Gaming yell at it "XBOX ON"....they've done it like 7 times now....not once has it turned on. It's a big joke.

Thats where I'm getting my stab. So therefore it's not for no reason.
