Do People Really Pre-order Digital Games 6 Months In Advance?

So I noticed that
Mafia III is now available for pre-order. It doesn't come out until October.

With that said, I was wondering if people really pre-order games that far ahead of a release.
IMO it's beyond stupid. Thoughts?

Digital pre order promotion

When should I expect to see credits from the digital pre order promotion that ended on Dec 31? Also do the credits stack? I had pre ordered 6 or 7 games and was wondering if I should expect 30000 instead of 15000?

 

Would love a way to Pre-Order and download digital games.

I really wish people would use their noggins. When you pre-order something you do it to ensure you have a copy of the game with the assumption that they will be sold out on the date it's released. Pre-ordering a digital game is illogical because there's
no limit on it due to it not being a tangible disk. Why do some people not get this?

 

Speaking only from the perspective of an older gamer, but I will sometimes preorder a few months in advance (not 6 months). Mostly that's just because I might forget to do it later. Or I might think I did it and then wonder why it didn't pre download. But
that's just me. Call me Quazy... with a "Qu".

 

I don't even preorder let alone 6 months. I don't see the point. Once upon a time it was useful when stores had limited stock of the newest and greatest games but it's not like digital won't be available.

The only point I can see getting it 6 months in advance is if you had money then and you thought you wouldn't have it in 6 months. A day before so you can preload it is understandable if you have a dodgy Internet connection and you don't feel like waiting
30 minutes for it to download.

 

Not that one but preordered final fantasy which I believe is September 30th release date

 

That's what I do cant always afford all the games I want especially around Xmas so pre ordering and paying months earlier when I have surplus cash is a bonus pre ordered fallout 4 when announced think that was 7 months before and had uncharted pre ordered
since uncharted collection came out as they offered a cool key ring and discount on the collection think that was over a year ago

 

Just wanted to add... my attitude is becoming more like brand's. My preordering has dropped way back in comparison to the way it was. I used to think a lot of games were worth preordering... that list has dwindled to a pathetically small number of 'worthy'
games.

 

I wouldn't see a need to pre-order digital...they going to run out of zeros and ones? Last game I pre-ordered on disc was Fallout 4 in the off chance there was limited stock; before that it was T.E.S. Oblivion.

1 month to 2 months out I may if I decide I really want a game.

For me it isn't a worry the game will be out of stock its more about my slow 6Meg DSL connection. I pre-order so the game will be downloaded and ready to play right away on release date, and not wait and buy it and wait 24+ hours for it to DL.

 

if I see a game I know I'll want I'll preorder it regardless of release date then once it's available to play I can play

 

Preordering a digital game at all seems odd, since there's no fear of shortage. I would think that, in this day and age, with so many games getting released in broken form, people would avoid any sort of preorder like the plague.

 

^^ Good point. I've pretty much stopped buying all games day 1 but there might be the odd one here and there.

 

2016,and today you discover that's possible to pre-order a game 6 months before release.

My big "problem"is that Mafia 3 is coming out the same week than Gears of war 4.

....

And yop,the day both will be available for pre-download,it's day one buy,for me,plus season pass of course.

 

I usually only order a day or two in advance. That is just when I usually make up my mind if I want it or not and that is when I order it.
