Guess I have been accustomed to console games and not played an mmo before. This game will cost $60+ and then require $15 a month to play it on top of xbox live gold. I was so excited for this game until I heard the price point. Especially with some of
the xbox one games I have bought ended up underwhelming or a glitchy mess, hard to pay that much. So I have to ask what the sales pitch is, what does an mmo game bring to the table to justify the extra cost?

    :)

  2. Are you only buying this game out of habit?

Are you...? How many of you actually really, genuinely, WANT this game? Honestly...? I really think like 75% of people who buy this game do so because they feel they have to like it's an obligation rather that truly being excited for it...

  3. Free name change

No it doesn't cost them really anything to do placebo, but without that cost for 1 it gives people more ways to be annoying on live and get away with it. This is the same as with most mmo's for example that offer a name change

The Xbox Live on top of the standard mmo sub fee is a bit hard to swallow but I have paid subscriptions for mmos before and have no issue as long as they provide quality content. ESO is quality content and worth my money in my opinion.

  5. Since a 30 day trial comes with the purchase and many people don't give a game much more time than that then I don't see the problem. I have more trouble seeing 50 or 60 dollars for a shooter that is finished in a day. That I already have a Gold membership
is one determining factor for staying on Xbox. I seriously considered PS4 but I think The One will have dropped some by the time I need it. I just wish I had at least one other reason to specifically want the One.

I have no issue as well but then again that's easy to say when you can afford to pay the prices to play. However that may not be the case for everyone, so I just hope that all those who want to play are able to play.

  7. Guess it is just my lack of experience with the mmo games that are subscription based. Not an ability to afford, I can afford it fine, I can also afford to pay $15 for a pack of bubblegum, guess I just wouldnt out of principle. Guess I am wondering if
they will continually add content and experiences that justify the cost of a whole other game every 4 months. Or will they add content and expect me to pay for that too.

The first new content is out or soon will be at no additional cost. The word has always been that content will be added without extra cost. Many talk about free to play games as being better but the only MMO I have ever tried was LOTRO and, while it had
a beginning lthat was free, all the expansions had to be purchased. There were other things also that had to be purchased but many of those could be acquired with the equivalent of a single month of subscription.

  9. I understand myself being a full time student, my money only has a couple places to go each month. The way I personally feel is that ESO is a game that is not like others. Yes it cost a monthly sub fee, yes it has its bugs and glitches, but one thing makes
it stand out from the rest; never-ending game play. You have games like GTA where you beat the story and go free roam, sure its fun but gets boring quick. In ESO there is so much to do, so many choices, and you play with the right people you may never want
to play anything other than a MMORPG again. You can be a master bowmaker or blacksmith and create the most advanced weapons and make a blacksmith guild, or you can become a werewolf and go stalk players in PvP, or you can group dungeon seeking that epic loot
drop from a dungeon boss. The point is there is more to the game than any other title out there. If you haven't seen any gameplay I would sugguest checking out someone named Deagen on twitch. He has a great stream and actually talks about the game.

I am willing to give it a chance since it comes with a free month but as soon as you have to pay for all next expansions, they add alot of way better things to the cash shop, etc then thats the day I stop. I understand that some if not most hardcore mmo
fans wouldnt mind all of that but we also have to think about the new mmo players. They have to keep it balanced and fair for all kind of people who either doesnt have as much time or money, yet they enjoy video games as much as you.

  11. Actually, Hector, I think the more important point it about time. I'm of a more frugal generation and find that younger people pay way too much for all sorts of things they don't need and dispose of them too soon. And on the other hand there is also a certain
sense of entitlement that says they shouldn't have to pay for a lot of things like music as if it flows freely through the ether with no creative impulse that needs to eat and pay the rent.

The time commitment though is something that directly affects whether the subscription is worth the price. That there are so many different business models for MMOs says that nothing is really a perfect fit and at that point the suits take over and decide
what is the most profitable way to slice the pie and they don't always understand what drives the gaming public or even care because someone is always willing to pay to play or pay to gain an advantage.

I have the money set aside for the initial investment and have cancelled two subscriptions I really wasn't using which covers the subscription for ESO if it ever finally arrives.

  12. I guess I have to accept that when I buy battlefield, call of duty, or halo, each month there is a dlc or map pack to buy for $19. So if the dlcs and extra contents are covered by the subscription, might be worth a try.

Would you guys mind linking me to an official statement from Bethesda saying DLC will cost money?

  14. I think you must have misread Silent (please forgive the spelling), I don't think there has ever been any intention, within the current payment model, for there to be any extra cost for DLC/Expansions. The first one, Craglorn, is certainly free. LOTRO does
have a limited free to play area with expansions costing more.

I don't think there is a one size fits all solution to multiplayer gaming and I am still not sure that an MMO was where The Elder Scrolls should have gone. I suspect someone somewhere thought it could be a cash cow. The whole world of Tamriel would lend
itself nicely to coop play within a single game something like Diablo III uses. Then the single players can play their way and the group players can play theirs and the ones who just like to feel big by ambushing low level players can go play somewhere else.
