    Do I really need a Kinect just to control TV volume using the Media Remote?


    If I'm understanding this correctly, a Kinect is necessary to be able to control TV volume, mute, on/off using the media remote? When you just needed the media remote for the 360 to do the same things? Please tell me I'm wrong and didn't waste money on this.

    How adjust PC volume from 360 remote with TV support enabled?

    Hi, once the "Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote" has been enabled to operate a TV set (to turn the TV on/off etc.) the remote's volume buttons ALWAYS control the TV volume. How can I use the remote to control the PC volume? Regardless of if the remote's TV
    button is green or red, the volume buttons control the TV volume.

    I am using this remote to control Windows Media Center on a regular PC, and really need to control the PC volume, not the TV volume.

    PC volume can be controlled if I do not enable the remote's TV support, but then I also lose the ability to turn the TV on/off :-(

    Anyone else just waiting for a reason to buy a Kinect?

    Well, I wish I didn't need Kinect in order to control the TV with the Xbox Media Remote. I need to keep the TV remote control close by just to control the volume and turn it on and off.

    Buy a universal remote, I have a Logitech Harmony and it controls everything. Takes a bit of time to set up but once it is you can customize it endlessly.

    Thing is, when the Media Remote was designed, the only option to buy an Xbox One was with the bundled Kinect.

    Hopefully in the near future they will revisit this and design a more suitable remote.

    Pretty terrible design, if you ask me. The components are there already, yet I need an additional $100+ piece of equipment I wouldn't use otherwise just to enable the simplest functionality. Guess I'll be trying an IR emitter using the IR out port. Hopefully
    that works... $10 instead of $100+

    You don't need a kinect to use a remote, the Xbox One has a IR port on the front.

    The remote controls TV/receiver power and volume through Kinect, or an IR extender cable (cable not included).

    You need Kinect or IR Extenders.

    Xbox one media remote won't control TV

    Well, no matter what I try, the official Microsoft Media Remote just won't control my TV's volume. I thought maybe it was my off-brand Sanyo TV but tried it on my other LG TV and it behaved the same. The Kinect can control the TV's volume with voice commands,
    but not the media remote.

    Returning this and I will try a third party remote and hope for better functionality.
