    Do I need to turn my Xbox One on to use Cable box?


    I want to be able to watch sports while playing a game but my girlfriend isnt going to go for having to turn the Xbox on everytime she wants to watch tv. So I was wondering if I hook up my cable box through my Xbox One does it have to be on for my cable
    to work or can I turn my cable box on like normal?

    Xbox One Passthrough work when off?

    So if i connect my cable box to the xbox one and then to the tv, do I always need to turn on the xbox one to watch tv? Or does the passthrough work even when the xbox one is turned off?

    I don't always want to have to turn the xbox on to watch tv.

    Yes, Xbox one does not do a passive pass-through. It must be on to pass through the HDMI signals.

    I'm not worried about my cable box, I just need it to pass through. I'm going to assume the One using the same technology my TV uses to get the guide. My uverse box requires an IR blaster to work, but the TV has the programming guide. I never use the cable
    box's guide, only Samsung's. Kinect being an KR blaster will basically have me running the same set up. But, my concern is, I would like my TV to turn on when the One does, which would in turn turn on my receiver. Currently, I only turn on my TV, uverse is
    always on..even when off.

    my Xbox turns on my box, tv, and receiver just fine, but if I turn on, then play games / watch Netflix for six hours, the uverse box automatically goes into standby. This cannot be changed on the uverse box.

    we need a voice command to power on/off individual components, or at least some way to send the "ok" command to the cable box.

    I keep my cable box in a cabinet to hide it, so when this occurs, I have to find the remote AND open the cabinet to fix..
