Do I need to get my xbox series x checked?

Kindly try plugging the HDMI cable into a different HDMI port on your TV, use a different HDMI cable to connect your console to your TV, and then power cycle your console by pressing and holding the Power button for 10 seconds to turn off the console, and then turning it on again

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

Check if the version you bought is the Series X|S version. If it's not then that maybe the cause of your problems. You'll need to get Series X|S version.

Thanks for your help. So the best thing I could do when I get the Series X is just log on to all my profiles and set the Series X as my home xbox?

I have this exact issue. His is my setup:

My son has a One S

I have a Series X

I was able to set the One S as my home xbox

I added his account to the Series X. Went to setting and then to my home xbox. At first, it is checked, then I get the circle, and the check mark is removed. Click on make this my home xbox on the Series X using his account, the circle spins, and then back to the "unchecked" box.

Checking his (One S), my account still has that xbox as my home xbox.

Reset networking, reset MAC address, flushed ARP cache on my switch and router, restarted all of those devices, and reset the Series X (both hard power cycle and factory reset). No luck.

Is it due to his account technically being a Xbox One profile and mine a Series X?

Also, my son's account is a child account but, unrestricted.
