    do I need to buy games under my Xbox account for Xbox play anywhere to work?


    I got here because I moved to pc and one of my favorite games is sea of thieves which I own A physical copy of, I'm thinking about buying the digital copy but don't want to have a problem and waste $40. I have a Microsoft family account Xbox play anywhere worked for the games my dad bought, but now it does not work. Do I need to buy the game on my account not my dad's? A

    Only digital versions have PlayAnywhere rights.

    While Sea of Thieves does support PA, most games do not so please be aware of this

    You can also access SOT through GamePass

    Xbox Play Anywhere page     When you buy an Xbox Play Anywhere digital game through the Xbox Store or the Windows Store, it’s yours to play on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC at no additional cost. To take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere, you will need to have
    installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update on your PC, as well as the latest update on your Xbox One console. Then, simply log into your Xbox Live/Microsoft account and your Xbox Play Anywhere games will be available to download. On your Xbox One,
    games will show as “Ready to Install” under “My Games and Apps”. On your Windows 10 PC, games will appear in “My Library.” Check it out and let us know if further clarification is needed!

    You're talking about a Microsoft account, but this one is free right?
