    Do I need the stereo headset adapter to use the officials Xbox Stereo Headset?


    I recently bought the official Microsoft Xbox One stereo headset and as I have have one of the new controllers with the 3.5mm jack on the bottom I assumed I didn't need the adapter so the one I bought came without the adapter. However, in order to get game
    audio and chat simultaneously I need to continuously plug and unplug the headset to the controller until the headset chat mixer appears on the side bar.

    I've followed all the troubleshooting guides and nothing worked. Any ideas?

    How do we update the controller? NO USB Cable comes with Xbox One.

    About updating controller, To use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter with your Xbox One Console, you’ll need to update your Xbox One Controller with the latest software to support the Adapter.

    This is from:
    support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter

    So Titanfall controller update is done by over air, no cable, (February update) and Stereo Headset Adapter controller update you need an cable, which comes with the adapter (March update).

    I would recommend the official Xbox brand stereo headset as it claims to be compatible with all xbox one wireless controllers:

    It probably doesn't need the stereo headset adapter - but if you're going to buy this headset, better just buy the stereo headset adapter to get your other headsets, that you already own, to work properly

    We have two of the
    Xbox Stereo Headset     with Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter, and both sets have worked well with no problems for sometime now. And I have used the
    adapter with non-Microsoft headset with no issues. So, given that you say your "3.5 mm cabled headset " works directly connected to the controller, then I regret to say it would seem that the fault lies with the adapter itself and may need to be replace.
