    Do I need an Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter?


    I've been having an issue with several of my headsets that when I plug them into the little headset jack on the controller, they sound like crap. It's as if they're just not playing certain sounds. However, when I use my earbuds, they sound fine. It has
    happened to my 3dtactic rage, beats, and now my zalmans. They all sound fine on my computer, just not to my xbox. Do I need an adapter or am I just not able to use the more complex headsets?

    It probably has to do with the fact that my headset has 2 different connectors for audio and mic, once I get the adapter I'll see if it still happens.

    We have two of the
    Xbox Stereo Headset     with Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter, and both sets have worked well with no problems for sometime now. And I have used the
    adapter with non-Microsoft headset with no issues. So, given that you say your "3.5 mm cabled headset " works directly connected to the controller, then I regret to say it would seem that the fault lies with the adapter itself and may need to be replace.

    About updating controller, To use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter with your Xbox One Console, you’ll need to update your Xbox One Controller with the latest software to support the Adapter.

    This is from:
    support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter

    So Titanfall controller update is done by over air, no cable, (February update) and Stereo Headset Adapter controller update you need an cable, which comes with the adapter (March update).

    I would recommend the official Xbox brand stereo headset as it claims to be compatible with all xbox one wireless controllers:

    It probably doesn't need the stereo headset adapter - but if you're going to buy this headset, better just buy the stereo headset adapter to get your other headsets, that you already own, to work properly
