Do I need a payment method to?

When I bought my Xbox Series X it came with the ultimate game pass for 2 years.
That will end next month.

I went and redeemed some of my Microsoft rewards points for a month of ultimate game pass.
I got the code and entered it.

No where in my account does it show that.

My account does show that I need to add a payment method.

My question is,
Do I need a payment method to redeem the code?
And why is that?
I have enough points right now to get 2 more months.

Yes, with redeeming a subscription code we're required to have a back-up payment method, Steve.

Hi SwordofWhedon thanks for the reply. It is a childs account with parental controls and no payment method attached. What do we need to do to attach a payment method? My concern with attaching a payment method would be unauthorised purchases. Also why would I need a payment method if a voucher has been purchased and the account has credit for the purchase required?

You do need a payment method on your account to get the games, but you wont be charged anything.

You can add a payment method, add the games, and then delete the payment method.

Are you sure it's wanting you to to pay or just add a payment method? You do need a payment method on file on order to redeem the code.

Thanks, you can use the balance to pay for a sunscription

But to do that you need to add a payment method. Once you add it (the payment method and balance currency needs to be in the same country)
The balance is going to appears and you can select it as primary payment method

But yes or yes is necessary to add a card / extra payment method because it's a renewable subscription
Once you purchase the subscription you can delete the payment method and turn off recurring billing
