Do I need a new TV? (Skyrim Special Edition and the new Xbox One S)

With the announcement of Skyrim special edition, this made me suddenly become obsessed with FINALLY upgrading to a 4k technology TV, and/OR getting an Xbox One S, so that I can experience the Special Edition to the fullest, but... Is it necessary?
I currently own a 55" Samsung 1080p HDTV and have just been enjoying my Xbox Day One edition, and games, on it. Skyrim special edition, Xbox One S, and project Scorpio are all in the works. As a strictly console player, where does everybody suggest I take
steps towards upgrading?

1.) Will Skyrim Special Edition look just as nice on a NON 4k TV (standard 1080p HDTV)?

2.) Would the HDR capabilities of the new Xbox One S impact the visuals of Skyrim Special Edition, thus, making it a good idea to buy and Xbox One S, for this experience?

3.) If I bought an Xbox One S mainly for the best possible visuals for Skyrim Special Edition... Do I have to be using a 4k TV to see the HDR?

Skyrim won't be 4K, it's basically running an updated engine with new graphical effects at 1080p - Think Skyrim with Fallout 4 visuals. So will Skyrim look nice? Absolutely yes, no question. If Skyrim supports HDR, which it most likely will, then yes,
it would look better on a HDR supported TV. As far as I've seen HDR is only on 4K TV's, I have not seen it on 1080p displays. HDR is a hardware display technology, to see HDR, you'll need an HDR TV and the content you are watching or playing needs to be
HDR.

The Xbox One S's 4K abilities are only confined to video playback via from UHD Blu-ray or 4K capable streaming.

 

I read that the Xbox One S will support HDR gameplay, but not 4k. 4k is reserved for Blu-ray playback and Netflix streaming, etc., but it WILL support HDR gameplay. I also read that Xbox One games will have to "be in HDR format" for example, the new gears
of war. I just don't know what I should do here!

 

It is not necessary to upgrade your TV for this game. If you had the PC version you could already be playing it in 4k... but with out the updated graphics engine (probably higher poly count and textures).

 

I would hold off just a little while longer for a 4K TV. There are competing standards for HDR, with the two main ones being HDR-10 and Dolby Vision. The difference between them being the colour depth and peak brightness. HDR-10 is the standard
chosen for UHD Blu-rays. Dolby Vision is the more advanced of the two but requires more processing hardware. Dolby Vision supports HDR-10 by default, but not the other way round.

 

When I found out about a Skyrim remaster and letting us have mods on console... I didn't care what TV I used to play it, but I did need a new pair of briefs...

 

Of all the games I'd throw out thousands of dollars to play, a Skyrim remaster is not one of them.

 

@goth, if you own it on pc already the remaster is free.

 

I know there are 1080p tv's out there with hdr technology after numerous videos on televisions that I've watched to find the right 4k tv for me. Though if you do get a 4k tv, then in some ways your future proofing yourself. Though if your buying one just
for one game then I don't know.

I actually already have my eyes set on what 4k tv I'm upgrading to next year to be used for my consoles and movies I watch.
