Do I have to pay to change my Gamertag from one set by the Enforcement team?

Hey,

My GT was deemed inappropriate by the Enforcement team, which I can deal with. But now it's saying that I need to pay to change it again? Is this the case? Do I have to pay to change my gamertag twice? Thankyou.

Sorry, but support is incorrect about how forced name changes work. If your gamertag violates the code of conduct the enforcement team will give you a forced name change by changing your gamertag to a randomly generated one. They do not give you the option
to confirm it. You will have to pay to change your gamertag again.

The Enforcement Team do not watch these forums. You won't get a free Gamertag change. If your Gamertag IS reset (unlikely), you will have to pay to change it to a different one.

Well, I think that's highly unfair? Is there anywhere I can appeal / complain? I understand that Microsoft has the power to deny a Gamertag.... But then charging the user to change it from one they set as a default is ludicrous!

I agree that they have the right to tell me to change it and that I should when they do. But to change it to one that I haven't agreed to and then charge me to change it to one I want is insane. Are you a Microsoft Employee?

Policy is set so that you're issued a random name. This was likely due to people abusing the free name change and taking another name that is against the rules. The other part is likely due to people trying to make up stories of harassment to social engineer
a free name change.

There is no appealing. You have to keep that name or pay to change it.

 

Just because people abuse the name change doesn't mean that Microsoft have the right to take away a privilege that I've paid for. I mean, do you think that its acceptable to change someone's GT after they've paid to change it and then charge them again to
change it back because you deem it unacceptable? Also, are you a Microsoft employee? Cheers.

 

None of us with just the laurel in the corner of our forums badge are microsoft employees. The badges that say Official Support, as far as I know, are. We are ambassadors, gamers just like you that help with support issues. The policy on FNC's was changed.
If you were to keep up on any changes to the COC or TOU, you would see this. Also both the Code of Conduct, and Terms of Use, are subject to change. Also, free name changes are not now, and never have been, a privilege. The updated COC clearly states that
if you receive a FNC, the system will give you a random name. This is the new policy, and you agreed to the terms when you signed up for LIVE. It was your choice to register a gamertag that was against the COC. It was found to be offensive in some way, and
you received a random name because of that. There is no choice but to pay the fee to change it to something you want. Please be advised though, if you change it back to something that is deemed offensive again, you could receive a ban on the account because
of too many FNC's.

 

They have every right to take a gamertag away, paid for or not, when it violates the Terms of Use/Code of Conduct. Doesn't matter if it was paid for my friend. I agree it sucks and it's kind of crappy, but none of us make the policies and there isn't much
to do. You have to stick with that name or pay for another one and just make sure you keep it within the rules.

Thanks for the answers. Looks like I'm just going to have to pay for it. Just to reiterate, I'm completely fine with them changing my GT, but charging me again to change it back is a bit below the belt, in my opinion. Thank you again.
