Do I have to download a game I already have?

Hello, I am trying to play Ark with my friends. They have the game through xbox game pass ultimate and I bought it off steam. I also have xbox game pass ultimate, I try to play Ark through there but it says the game is not downloaded. Do I have to download
a second 100gigs for the same game that I already have?

Downloading the game again is the only way to play it on Xbox with your friend.

However, if your friend is close by you can bring a portable hard drive to his XBOX and copy it and save the long download times. You'll be playing in no time at all!

They are playing on PC as well and with Game Pass Ultimate. I have Game Pass Ultimate and the game downloaded but cannot play with them because I did not download through the Microsoft Store?

As far as I am aware, there is no cross platform play between Steam and Xbox when it comes to Ark, so your Steam version cannot communicate with their Game Pass version of the game. You would have to download the Game Pass version of the game and start fresh
there in order to play with other people using the Game Pass version.

Hello!

The gamepass app and steam are different launchers. Then you need to download the game again in the Microsoft Store and run it through the gamepass app.

If you have a Game Pass Ultimate subscription you should be able to download Ark from the Microsoft store for free. You will need to re download through the Microsoft Store in order to play, because you will be on Microsoft's Services and not Steam's.
