Do HDMI cables matter for Audio?

I bought a TCL P605 recently and it's great. The 4K HDR visuals look dope. However, the audio is giving me issues. You see, I'm using an old Sony 3.1 soundbar that unfortunately doesn't support 4K passthrough. What I thought I could do is plug my Xbox One
X into the TV, then use the Audio Return Channel from the TV to the soundbar. When I do that, though, I only get stereo sound and when I try to switch to bitstream out or even just 5.1, I get an error message saying that my receiver doesn't support even though
it does. I can't force the audio because to get 4K HDR the settings need to be set to auto. The only solution I can think of is to use an optical cable, which would be more inconvenient, or try out one of those expensive audio HDMI cables at Best Buy or something
and see if that helps. Do you guys think that might be it?

    :)

    4K HDMI CABLE QUESTION

Doesn't matter. High Speed HDMI cables (also know as Category 2 cables) can carry 4k60p. High Speed HDMI cables are what most cables are sold as today.

    What is optical audio?

I'm just using an HDMI cable connection and have stereo uncompressed for my HDMI audio.

So should optical audio be off or stereo uncompressed and does it matter?

Try the optical cable. Personally, I'm using a Samsung soundbar which receives sound like this: Xbox -> HDMI -> TV -> Optical -> Soundbar.

I'm able to get bitstreamed Dolby/DTS surround sound that way. Here's a fairly cheap one from

    Connecting to a computer monitor

    What monitor?

You'll need the HDMI AV kit (the original one) that comes with a thin AV adapter. The AV adapter provides audio. You'll also need an HDMI to DVI adapter or an HDMI to DVI cable.

On a PS3, you'll need an HDMI to DVI cable and the multi AV cable that comes with the console for audio.

What monitor you have matters. While the 360 supports many popular monitor resolutions and will work for games without HDCP, the PS3 only supports HDTV standards and requires HDCP.

Xbox one x loud static sound

This may be something to do with bitstream audio settings.

How is your.console connected to audio?

Is it an hdmi cable to your tv?

    Or to a sound bar?

Or are you using toslink (digital audio cable)

    HDMI Question

HDMI cables carry both audio and video. You do not need any extra cables.

    HMDI to DVI
I have my Xbox connected via HDMI AND I have the standard AV connector connected to my Xbox at the same time (for Audio to turtlebeach headset)
Can't do that. The only exception is the specific thin HDMI audio dongle
that came with the original HDMI kit. Doing what you describe (forcing an A/V cable alongside the HDMI cable) causes the problem you're observing.
Apparently this is what its meant to do Is ther a way of stopping this
    Find an original HDMI AV
audio adapter or use another method of splitting audio out of HDMI. Several HDMI matrix switches support analog and optical audio out. Most TVs and many monitors can give you a stereo out from an HDMI signal.
