Do beta's take away from games?

If anything, the betas make the game that much better when the full retail version is released. Performance, bugs/glitches, overpowered items can be terminated/ Tuned up or down. Though, there are still some bugs/glitches that manage to get through. Bungie
is good though for squashing these asap.

 

Doing beta,for me,i found this interesting,even for a games that i don't care....It's like having a backstage pass.Discover stuffs that i don't know.

But now,beta are more like stress test,with less interactivity with devs....

Project Spark beta and Halo Guardians are/will be interesting,because these games won't be release one month after ....Fable Legends might be another interesting one.

 

i played the titanfall beta and it was pretty much all the game had to offer, i should've just canned my order for it there and then.

Destiny however, i simply cannot wait for it to come out

 

Betas make the release and full game smoother, but short sighted people end up not buying it/making a stink because of beta issues.

Betas are bad business. They help the customer, but hurt total sales.

Please understand that it isn't my intention to be mean / rude, but people should realize that the Beta of a game IS NOT the final product.

Now, if the individual wasn't really interested in the game to begin with; the Beta most likely wouldn't change things.

In regards to hurting the sales of the game itself, I feel that the Beta helps a game more than hinders it because the backlash from angry gamers could have possibly been avoided if the bugs / glitches detected during this period (the Beta) is fixed.

I think this is a loaded question to be honest, because the answer is subjective to the person who's responding to it and how they feel about the game/beta, as well as the overall quality of the beta/game itself. It's going to be different from every person
and different from every beta/game. There is no right or wrong answer here...

There is a reason companies don't do betas. It hurts sales. Releasing a bugged game doesn't hurt sales. It could potentially hurt the sequels sales. Other companies will take notice to all the negative response to this beta. Don't expect another beta
from a big name game any time soon.

I wouldnt even describe Destiny (or Titanfall) as a beta, it was just a network stress test, the overall product wont change, apart from opening up more content. I have participated in closed beta for an AAA title that was released for the One and the
process involved a lot more gathering of data by the beta testing company and required all participants to file details feedback surveys after each and every play session. Testers were also paid in order that data would be gathered under strict control conditions
and were effectively classed as employees of the testing company and restricted under terms of an NDA. (which still applies and prohibits naming of the title)

I agree... I'm actually a web tester... And although there was a feedback section on b.net, I'd hardly call it a reliable reporting service.

Stress/load test for sure.

 

They are kind of spoilers. On Xbox 1, the only Beta I've tried is Project Spark Beta. I will not try Destiny as it's not quite my taste and the Destiny Beta download is something like 12GB big. As I know of, you can't get Gamerscore Achievements when you
play them and they can be buggy for sure. Probably best to wait for the full proper version of it to come out one where you can get Gamerscore Achievements in, and less buggy.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a Minecraft Beta or at least, a Minecraft Demo. And Minecraft Xbox 360 doesn't count as it's on another platform (Xbox 360 is a different platform to Xbox 1 even tho they are both official Xbox brands).
