DNS Error on XBOX 360 (Original)

I have one an original model XBOX 360 which has had no problems connecting to xbox live until Thursday night. Suddenly it kept giving me a DNS error. I ran through all the steps that were listed on the site. Resetting settings, resetting the modem/Router
(Xfinity combined unit) as well as my wireless access point. Even tried a direct connection to the Modem/Router. Thought maybe it was a bad Ethernet port. So I tried a wireless adapter (Borrowed from a friend) same problem. I have a 2nd Xbox 360 that is the
S model. It works without any problems. Same with every other device on my network. I tried Manual and Automatic dns settings.

What Country/State/Province do you live in? PA, USA

    Modem brand & model number: **** TG862G/CT

Router brand & model number: Same as above - Though I do use a Linksys WRT160n as a Wireless Access Point (I have tried connecting both with and without this step, same results)

If Wireless, are you using a white or black external adapter, or an internal (Xbox 360S) adapter? Black adapter, works fine on another system)

    Things you have tried:

    Is UPnP Enabled? Yes

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type? N/A

Any Error Codes you encounter: N/A

Who is your ISP(Internet Service Provider)? Comcast Xfinity

After you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" press “Y” for "More Info”. In the pop-up that appears, what are the following values, if shown? (If a value below does not appear for you, just leave it blank.)

    W: 0000 - 0021

    X: 0000 - F001

    Y: 0000 - 0000

    Z: 8015 - 1904

    T: Wireless

    D: 75.75.76.76, 75.75.75.75

It cant be my ISP because if it was my other xbox would not work. I am leaning toward a problem in my 360, which would really stink.

DNS Error on XBOX 360 (Original)

Well, after more searching and thanks to a Microsoft Support Article, I found a Solution. (I don't like it, but it does work)

    support.microsoft.com/.../fr

I also found the following Forum question in here on this. Maybe this should be Added to the DNS Sticky.

    forums.xbox.com/.../449101.aspx

Apparently the problem that just started Thursday Evening relates to my MAC address. My Modem/router doesn't have MAC filtering, so that's not what prevented it from getting online. But my MAC address on my XBOX suddenly stopped working. I had to go into
advanced, CLONE my MAC address from my PC (I will be changing it to the lesser used laptop so I can still connect to my PC from my XBOX)

This does work. But it is not IDEAL. I have spoken to my ISP they are going to research as to why my MAC address suddenly stopped working.

Hi, can you try set your console's DNS settings, to resolve IP addresses through Google public DNS servers instead of your ISP's.

In order to perform this step, follow these instructions:

    1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
    2. Select Network Settings.
    3. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
    4. Select Configure Network.
    5. On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.
    6. Select Manual.
    7. Select Primary DNS Server.
    8. Enter 8.8.8.8
    9. Select Secondary DNS Server.
    10. Enter 8.8.4.4
    11. Select Done again.
    12. Press the B button on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

Let me know how that goes and we'll go from there.

I actually solved this, and did not get your reply til just now.

I ran across a suggestion that seemed outright improbable to fix my problem. But I tried it anyway.

Clear the system cache 3 times on my main HD. Low and Behold, it worked. Thanks for all the help.

    DNS error on Xbox 360

    Hello TenablePark488,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. There is an option to
    manually change the DNS
of the console. We will provide steps on how to complete this process. We recommend making the primary DNS server 8.8.8.8, and establishing the secondary DNS server as 8.8.4.4 in order to resolve this issue. Be sure to let us know
    the results!

    1. From the Dashboard, select Settings, and then select
      System
      .
    2. Select Network Settings.
    3. Select your network
    4. Select Configure Network
    5. On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.
    6. Under Edit DNS Settings, select Manual.
    7. Select Primary DNS Server, enter the primary DNS server address, then select
      Done.
    8. Select Secondary DNS Server, enter the secondary DNS server address, select
      Done, and then select Done.
