DLNA FAQ for XBOX ONE over WIN 8.1 - SERVER 2008 R2 - SERVER 2012 and Most other Devices

Okay after the update this morning I was dead set on setting up DLNA to watch my MKV files so I went ahead and deployed across as many platforms as I could including Windows Phone 8 and Windows Server 2008 r2 and 2012 windows 8 windows 8.1, and one Android
Tablet. All you need to deploy is the Media Player App from the XBOX ONE App Store, and a LAN connected to your XBOX ONE and your DLNA device of choice.

DLNA Win 8.1 AND Windows Server 2012 Enable

    1) Open Charms > Search > "Stream"

    2) Select Media Steaming Options

    3) Click Turn on Media Streaming

    4) Choose Devices to Allow or Block

    To Add or Remove folders

    1) Open File Explorer

    2) Expand Libraries (right click left pane to select or deselect libraries from view)

    3) Any system folder located within these directories will be shared

    to ADD :

    1) Select Folder from folder tree or explorer

    2) Right Click Select Include In Library > Select Library

    to REMOVE:

    1) Select folder from LIBRARIES tree

    2) Right Click Select Remove location from Library

    DLNA Win 8.1 Disable

    1) Go to Network and Sharing Center (right clicking your Ethernet/Wifi icon in your taskbar)

    2) Click HomeGroup (lower left corner)

    3) Click Change advanced sharing settings

    4) Click on the arrow next to All networks profile

    5) Click Choose Media Streaming Options

    6) Click Block All

    7) Click OK

    DLNA Server 2012 Disable

    1) Go to Network and Sharing Center (right clicking your Ethernet/Wifi icon in your taskbar)

    2) Click Change advanced sharing settings

    3) Click on the arrow next to All networks profile

    4) Click Choose Media Streaming Options

    5) Click Block All

    6) Click OK

    DLNA Win Server 2008 R2

    1) Open Server Manager

    2) Add Role "Windows Media Server" Download Role from Microsoft : Here Download Windows Media Services 2008 for Windows Server 2008 R2 from Official Microsoft Download Center

    3) Add Feature "Desktop Experience"

    5) Restart

    4) Run Windows Media Player Setup from Start Menu

    5) Restart

    1) Go to Network and Sharing Center (right clicking your Ethernet/Wifi icon in your taskbar)

    2) Click Change advanced sharing settings (left side)

    3) Click Media Streaming options at the bottom of the page or Under Domain (provided domain is setup)

    4) Click Turn on Media Streaming

    5) Choose Devices to Allow or Block

    DLNA Windows Phone 8.1

    1) Open Store

    2) Nokia devices search : Play to Samsung devices search: Allshare

    3) Run the App Follow instructions to share media

**) So far only two manufactures have DLNA apps for Windows phone (may not be available in all regions)

    Other DLNA capable devices

    1) Natively XBOX ONE should now detect DLNA with Media Player App available from the Store however if you have a Mac and or Android device:

    2) Download the Plex App for the XBOX ONE

    3) Download Plex app on Mac or Andriod

    **)Plex requires an internet connection

    Tips and Notes

-Make sure both the DLNA device and XBOX ONE are on the same Network

-DLNA Has no security restrictions ie. everyone one on your local network will see what you share

-You Cannot add Mapped Network Drives to a Library under normal circumstances.. all though there are work arounds.. they are not great ones instead just setup DLNA on server

    - Why choose DLNA vs Play to ????

    - Allows Browsing of Files on DLNA from XBOX ONE

    - Support .MKV playback - (US ONLY - until "Media Player- Preview" is replaced with "Media Player" in app store outside US> or you can change your location from the settings menu and manually enter a US DNS to download the most recent version of the
Media player preview just remeber to undo the settings change later or you will get region error messages

    :)

  2. Xbox One Wired Controller Issue

    Cy43rguru,

I have previously installed the driver and it came up as a Xbox Gaming Device. But still no reaction, light or vibration from the controller itself. I went though my Windows Update to see if i needed: User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 update for Windows
7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 or Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 update for Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have both of these installed and nothing. I was looking around on Reddit and found that i could possibly have a normal Xbox One controller install and then plug my controller in and it would work with the drivers from the Official one, sadly only the Official
one worked correctly, lit up and the xbox button pulled up Big Picture Mode in Steam. As of now, i'm installing any left over Updates i may need to see if it sorts out. I've tried manually forcing the driver as well: My options being Xbox One Controller, Xbox
One Controller (DFU) and Xbox Gaming Device. None of the three get it to work. I do have the driver itself from Majornelson.com. I'll keep looking into it and see if i can get it working. Any other tips would be appreciated. Thank you again for your help.

  3. Songs Downloaded to PC From Xbox Music Won't Stream to Xbox 360 (04-800705b4)

    Hello,

Hopefully someone can give some input on this issue.

    Goal:

I'd like to have all of my music from Xbox Music in one central location at home. This way I can stream music from other devices that don't run Windows, but are DLNA/UPnP capable (Google TV, Yamaha Receiver, etc.). Also, this would allow me to stream my
collection on my Xbox 360 while I play a game, since currently you can't stream Xbox Music in-game. (Eh hem...feature request, anyone?)

    Environment and Steps Taken:

I recently setup Windows Server 2012 R2 in my home. I have also installed the Windows Server Essentials Media Pack (Download Windows Server Essentials Media Pack from Official Microsoft Download Center),
so DLNA/UPnP should be good to go. Then I set the Xbox Music app to download songs added to my collection from other devices (this way everything syncs back to the server). Finally, I also setup Windows Media Player to include the folder where the Xbox Music
app was downloading these files (C:\ServerFolders\Music\Xbox Music), and configured it to allow remote control of the player and automatically allow devices to play media, as well as ensured all devices on the network were allowed. I also have a laptop running
Windows 8.1 with the Windows Media Player library shared, and some of the music has been downloaded to this machine as well.

For both machines, Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing are both turned on, and the Xbox 360 has been added as a device. Also, on the Xbox 360, Play To is enabled. I've also verified that all requisite services are running, and all three devices
have been rebooted numerous times. I've even tested with the firewall of the server turned off, but it makes no difference.

    The Problem:

When I choose the Xbox system music player, I can see the server (as a Media Server and the Windows Media Player shared library) as well as the laptop as network devices, and I can select music. But I get the error (04-800705b4) when I try to play any of
these songs - this happens if I choose either the Media Server or WMP library, or the WMP library from the laptop. I can, however, play songs on the Xbox 360 from either library by selecting Play To in WMP. So...what gives?

    Thanks,

    Lee

Of course it works over wlan but beware if you have an iffy signal you'll see a small Xbox symbol in the top right everytime it drops and reconnects however I've never had issues with the video stream seems to cache at least 3-4 mins of video.

    DLNA

You can use a mobile app called skifta as a DLNA controller between your DLNA server and Xbox One.
