DLC code problem

So, I just bought an xbox live DLC code from a guy.

DLC (Downloadable Content) codes give you access to certain specific items on xbox live.

He sent me the code by e-mail after payment. I went on to xbox live and I got the message "This code has already been used". As a very upset customer I asked him politely (gee, my patience!) what was going on and he just replied with a second code: "Try
this one". Who does he think he is? This is a sale, not a joke. :/

Anyway, so I tried his code and it worked. I left negative feedback, saying the seller provided me with an already used code the first time which is unacceptable to me as a buyer.

Next thing you know this guy sends me a 'feedback change request' for me to change my negative feedback. He wrote: "I don't understand why you wrote negative feedback about me. The first code didn't work, so what? It happens."

It happens?! Sorry, no, it doesn't happen. You either have a valid, unique xbox live code or you don't.



So, who is right?

Invalid DLC codes? Iv got an invalid DLC code problem but thats with Tropico 4 which came out today, anyone know who sorts the codes? MS or the publishers?

Actually it is entirely possible for that to happen. The person did replace the code when you contacted him.

However, this is a matter between you, him and the auction site.

 

How can that be entirely possible to happen if no one knows the code?

 

He's a scammer. Report him for such and dispute your payment. He is just telling you no one else knows the code because he wants to keep the money you sent him. Never buy from 3rd party sites.

 

Yes, xTye, that seems rational. I don't understand why onyx62is said it's perfectly possible for a code to be already used.

As far as I see it, he is indeed a scammer and he deserves the negative feedback. He didn't tell me no one else knows the code though, he just told me "So what, it's used. It happens".

I am hoping to get an answer from the Microsoft Development Team and/or affiliated.

 

I have seen posts from people before where they've purchased a code from the store but they've come back as being used before they could enter them.

There are several reasons this can happen:

1. A glitch on Microsoft's side - you could have contacted phone support to find out an approximate date of when it was used.

2. You entered the code incorrectly when you received it and punched in one that had previously been used accidentally

3. The person who sold it to you entered the code incorrectly when he typed it in to you message.

There are many possibilities as to how or why this could have happened. We should never jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts.

 

1. Microsoft would never allow such bugs in production - I know this for a fact.

2. I'm not an idiot.

3. No, he didn't.

Microsoft would use a specific algorithm to come up with uniquely identifiable hashes, making it impossible for someone to accidentally type an already used code just because he happened to change up some characters. Such security flaws would never pass
System Acceptance Tests.

 

Microsoft won't help you in this case I'm afraid. They weren't involved in that deal as it's 3rd party.
