DLC a Rip Off!?!

Probably beating a dead horse here. I just wanted to vent how DLC is a Rip Off!!! I think it is insane that these game companies want us to shell out $60 and then tack on another $50 to $60 so you can get DLC. I believe they purposely make a game boring
after awhile and then if you want to keep playing you have to pay. The sad thing is they usually release a Game of the Year edition that gives you the DLC which is already on the disc to begin with. Borderlands, Batman, etc... Everyone complains about it yet
it seems these companies are still finding suckers to shell out this cash. I for one have never and never will pay. I'll just jump on to another game. Destiny was fun, but they made it too easy and only gave you a level 20 cap? WTF? I miss the good old days
where you just put the game in and even if you beat it you could play it over and still enjoy it. And everyone knows the DLC is on the Disc anyways. They are making plenty of money already.

$50 Season Pass

DLC usually is a "rip-off", as in they rip content off the actual disc to sell back to you later, (annoying orange laugh).

 

I dislike most DLC and agree with you. Games like The Witcher 3 will hopefully buck the trend when they release 2 proper expansions. They are supposed to be big expansions. Even with out them I have played for 67 hours (stats from Smartglass) and I am like
20% complete.

Games like Batman Arkham Knight are a joke trying to charge 40 euro for a season pass and it includes a few car skins and a new character amongst a few other underwhelming, not really worth it items.

Most DLC is a disgrace, but not all. I'd say maybe 10% of all DLC is actually worth it. It's no secret a lot is cut from the game to sell to us later, but at least we aren't forced to buy it unless we really want a complete game.

 

I hate to agree but it's mostly true. The last season pass I bought was for Bioshock Infinite and I was pretty disappointed and I'm pretty easy to please. I will ONLY buy a season pass for a very few games now, like for Fallout 4 because I want EVERYTHING
good or bad!!! But yes, this dlc thing is a double edged sword. Sometimes it favors the gamer and sometimes it favors the developer.

 

The first sentence is false. While this may be true in a couple instances, the vast majority of DLC is made after the discs have already been sent
out....especially when it comes to Destiny. None of that DLC is on the disc.

As for your second sentence....who are you to say how much money someone should make?? If a company makes a great game, they should make a lot of money from it. Developers/Publishers should be well compensated for making something amazing.

 

Eggnoga you couldn't be more wrong. There are two glitches on the Destiny game that are obvious maps to the DLC. Go on you tube and you will see recordings. If you can't find them I will send you the links. These companies already make tons of money already
and really don't need to make DLC. The DLC is already made and their is plenty of room on the disc to fit it. If not they could just put in a second disc. Everyone is jumping on the band wagon. When XBOX 360 came out how long was it before companies were
making DLC? 5 years? Yeah that is what I thought. It is a Scam plain and simple. They are just as bad as P2P MMOs that charge money for expansions and people are already shelling out monthly fees.

 

The areas where the Destiny dlc is set were already on the disc,the actual dlc content wasn't.

Most dlc is started on after the game has been finished but yet to be released,some developers have separate teams to work on dlc.

Not sure were you get the 5 year thing from for the early days of the 360,5 months yes but not 5 years.

At the end of the day no one is forcing you to buy dlc.It's not a scam,some of it is over priced but it definitely is not a scam.

 

It's not a scam huh? How come Destiny is being released in September and it comes with the two expansions? Oh and you have to pay another $60 bucks for it just to get the 3rd Expansion!!! Ofcourse they offer players who already paid for the last two expansion
a bunch of dumb DLC Items that are just cosmetic to make up for it. So let's do the math. Destiny $60+1st Expansion $20+2nd Expansion $20+Rerelease of Destiny $60=$160!!!! As far as I know they don't give players the option to download The Taken King Expansion.

I don't believe ALL DLC is a rip off. I thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age Origins Awakening and believe i got every dollar worth. As well as Dragon Age 2 Legacy DLC.

In most cases i believe it is open to interpretation of each individuals opinion of the content and how each justifies the price.

Destiny's new DLC the Taken King in my opinion not worth 67% of the original game. Although there still ksnt a whole lot of information on that DLC, I still find it hard to justify 40$. Seeing as Destiny lacked story and is the most overhyped and underwhelming
game of all time in my opinion.

DLC can be valuable. As it adds extra content after one has finished the game and still wants more content for the game they love.

As a gamer of 25+ years, we are in a different day and age. It is no longer release a game "finished" and wait years for a sequel. It is release a game "playable" patch on the go. Release the "expansion/dlc" work on the sequel for next year.

Games back then you could replay them and enjoy them the second time around. Also many games once you beat them you unlocked stuff and the experience was different the second time. Look at Metroid and Zelda for example.

 

I mean, the most simplistic response any of us can give you is that if you don't want to buy DLC and/or think it is a scam, don't buy it.

 

Dlc is good only when it is what development wanted to add to the game but didn't have time in production. Dlc sucks when it's just a money gimic. I honestly think more games should go the path of free dlc.
