Discs When Playing Installed Games

so i bought fallout 4 on disc and installed it. i played for a few days and when i went to swap the game to play a different one. i noticed that fallout 4 wasn’t even in the console and DOOM was? i thought you couldn’t play physical games without the discs
or has this been changed?

just asking if anyone has had the same experience

The point of a CD?

Xbox One games are on bluray discs. Consoles can't actually keep up with the game when reading directly from the discs, so to reduce loading times while playing, the games have to be installed.

What's up with Xbox 360 games needing so much memory to play?

Games are getting larger in size due to them getting more advanced in terms of graphics. Installing games can cut back on the load times and stress on the disc drive. Some games need a mandatory installation like GTA 5 such as Battlefield 4. Sometimes the data is split on different discs like Disc 1 and 2 so you need the data installed so the Xbox can excess the contents when you're playing a different disc.

Two disc. One for a mandatory 8GB install, the other for playing the actual game itself. Once you complete the install, you simply play the game on the second disc. No disc swapping necessary when progressing in the game.

Have you tried installing the game? I get disc read errors when trying to play from the disc but it installs and plays fine for some reason.

If the disc was broken when you installed it, then you may need to try getting a better disc to install the game. Then you should be able to use your disc in the drive when you actually play it.

How installing works:

When a game is installed, it plays off the hard drive instead of straight off the disc. This allows for faster load times, and less wear and tear on your disc and disc drive.

However, you still need to place the disc in the drive. When you launch an installed game, the Xbox will read it to determine if it is a legitimate copy of the game.
