Disconnecting from Xbox Live at College

I've been getting disconnected from Xbox Live about every half hour or less at college since the semester started. I am plugged directly into an ethernet port in the wall in my dorm room. After some testing, I figured out that it is the school's internet
at fault and not my Xbox. I'm going to copy and paste some emails from the IT department and hope that someone here knows more than I do and can help me out. When I told them that the internet has been randomly cutting out for me, they said "Your switch
port still shows multiple CRC and input errors. The condition you are describing also is a result of port security which means that you switch the mac address on a port too quickly and the switch, seeing more than one mac address, temporarily disables the
port. This switch has also been up for quite some time, so it was reset early this morning." When I asked if there is anything I can do to fix the problem on my end they said "I do not have an Xbox so all I can do is give you general guidelines. Reset
your network connections. Make sure they are in either auto speed/auto duplex or hard code them for 100Mb/Full Duplex. Contact Xbox support or search Internet user groups to see if there is any type of work around or software update that may help minimize
this problem. A couple of years ago, an Xbox update caused quite a few connection issues for many of our RH users." Does anybody have any idea what this means and what I can do?

the IT department is your only hope if you are plugged straight in and still have a strict NAT , its on them ...you might ask if they can open the ports you need or put the MAC address of your xbox on their "OK" list...

errors" and "CRC" are equal (approximately), or if they differ in a greater scope.

May I ask (in regard to CRC error), have you tried to connect your console using a different Ethernet cable?

that you describe here doesn't apply with how port security violation mode works. That is, if you get disconnected from Xbox Live about every half hour. When you say "every half hour or less" what is less?

The Xbox One doesn't come with an option to manually configured speed/duplex settings, to override IEEE autonegotiation.

 

1) Whenever I was disconnected from Xbox Live I unplugged my ethernet cord from my Xbox and plugged it into my laptop, and my laptop did not recognize the cord for about a minute. From this I assumed that the problem was with the internet or with the port
in my room, but I could be wrong.

2)I have tried using a different ethernet cable, and the problem persisted.

3)Sometimes I will get disconnected not even 5 minutes after turning my Xbox on. It seems random, but I almost never make it more than half an hour without disconnecting. If I do then I usually stay connected for the entire time I play. I also get disconnected
even while playing single player games that don't require a connection, and that can happen every half an hour, every 20 minutes, or every 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to have much of a pattern.

in a nutshell send them the wired macc address from your xbox and have them white list your device to the network,

then make sure your xbox one is set to energy saving so that way its not accessing any network data when your not in the dorm room or away. I doubt it could be the Ethernet cable but it doesn't hurt to check

but in all honesty your at the mercy of the I.T department , when I was in college I've had a similar experience :/

ultimately if you want to get away from the dorm provided internet you can look into getting a mobile hotspot bu then again its not a support option but it is an option none the less

 

Ok, I'll try that. Sounds like I don't have any other options unfortunately; I can't use my phone as a mobile hotspot because I don't have unlimited data. Thanks for the help!
