DiscDrive makes annoying noise after start-up

Hey all,

since the last dashboard update, i'm experiencing some trouble with my Xbox One.

Everytime i start the console with a disc inside (normal start-up, no quick-start) the drive starts to spin the disc really fast. the result is a very annoying, buzz-like noise. this noise is so loud, you can still here it while playing or watching tv.

After some minutes (no matter you played a game or just idled at the frontpage) you can hear how the drives stops spinning so fast. After this, everything operates normal until you reboot the console. This problem never occured before the march-update!

Is there anybody out there with the same problem?

AC power adapter

Power adapter makes an annoying noise and game shuts down after 15-20 min of playing.

 

Why doesn't my console make the start up noise anymore?

What start-up noise? Mine is quiet, an Elite. I've heard R2 makes noise. Which console do you have?

 

Hi Rob, since this has started happening has it happened with different discs? Do you notice any scratches on the disc(s) after ejecting? I haven't noticed anything like this since the last updated, but that doesn't mean it isn't related. Hopefully, it
isn't your disc drive going bad, because loud noises on the 360 disc drives were often the precursor to drive failure.

 

Hi,

i noticed it with different game-discs (i tried it with ryse, battlefield & titanfall). There are no scratches or anything else on them and as i said, after some minutes it just stops and everything is normal. you can hear it loud and cleary, how the drive
stops spinning like hell even while playing a loud game like titanfall.

Later today, i will try to reproduce it with bluray-movies, but i think the behaviour will be the same.

I got an invitation to the preview-program today. I really hope, it is gone with the next update. In my opinion it must be a software-flaw. Some kind of bug deep inside the part of the software which controls the disc-drive.

I'm praying that this is no hardware-issue.

 

I just did some more tests:

The noise appears only with bluray discs. I tested it with a few Xbox One games and some bluray movies. With DVD-movies or normal audio-cds you hear nothing but the normal operating sound.

About 15min after i put a game into the console, the noise disappears without doing anything. I even didn't touched the controller. I just booted the console, changed the game-disc and waited...then suddenly the noise was gone. It won't comeback even if
i start the game which is inside the drive. It only comes back, when i reboot the console.

 

Got the 1404-Preview Update today. It solved the problem. The drive is finally silent again.
