    Disc vs. Download

I used to prefer disc based games because I liked having the hard cases with the box art in a big collection. But now I prefer digital so much more. Much easier to access. I don't even have to stand up to change games, as lazy as that may be. No more hassle
of going to the mall, finding out they have no more copies, searching the shelves for that one specific game. You may lose the trade in feature but with Xbox Live Rewards, you earn currency on every purchase and I've gotten a few free games out of it. No more
buying multiple copies of the same game because of scratches or cracks. For me it's digital all the way.

I personally much prefer having gone fully digital with all my games now.

Sure I know mostly you can find the disc versions cheaper elsewhere but I believe in the long run going fully digital will actually save me money. Too many times in the past ( going back years on previous consoles also ) I've traded in a game, only for somewhere
down the line to want to play it again and re-purchased the same game twice.

Also ( I bet there's a few like me here lol ) I've purchased a game, didn't think much of it only to jump ship and going trade it back in. Now I'm more inclined to give some games more of a chance and on quite a few occasions I'm glad I have.

As for trading disc games back in now, where I live in the UK the only place I can go is GAME and I'm sorry, most of the time they are complete rip offs, buy a game today, trade it back in a few days later for less than half what you paid.

Lastly I just love the convenience of digital, no worrying about getting down the shops ( I'm lazy ) no waiting on the postman, in most cases I can have my games pre-downloaded in advance and ready to go.

Digital all the way for me Disc vs. Download :)

Heres an example of the benefit of disc over digi,

fifa just went on sale for £27 on XO. I wanted to get it to play with XO friends but already had it on PS4. Got £26 trade for the ps4 version and paid £1 to swap. Now if i had gone digital i would never of had that freedom.

I also prefer disc as then you can lend it to a mate or however many mates you want. You can then sell it for a small sum to make your original purchase (which was already probably cheaper than digital) even cheaper.

The main benefit is the games cannot be lost or stolen. people say quick swapping games but i refuse to believe anybody values 6 seconds of movement worth £10 for each game they play.

I have both Disc and digitals and my philosiphy is like this.

If i picture playing a game for 3 months+ i will buy digi, if its less i will get the disc.

@Lofty we also have CEX (they trade online too and graionger games to trade to, i also have a cool indie near me that trades).

With 3 systems in our house disc is the way to go. Most of the time one copy of a game and we can share it in the house with no problems at all.

I've made mention of this in a seperate thread,

Game companies love digital downloads as opposed to physical hard copies. Downloading the game digitally removes the second-hand market entirely. Used gaming has grown substantially during the PS3 & 360 generation. You sell your games to a store such as
GameStop, they give you a sum of money and turn around and sell the game for a substantial profit. Money in which the game developers don't see any of. Then usually with the money you got from selling your game you may buy a pre-owned copy of a new game. Not
to mention it costs the game company money to produce a hard copy disc and the case, which really isn't a big deal to them though.

I'm sure you all remember when they decided to remove the gaming manuals from games due to wanting to be more "environmental" and save paper. Around the same time the game's cases became super flimsy and easily breakable because they began making them from
recycled material. "Going green" is great and all but I highly doubt that was their primary reason. All it really did was make disc copies of the game less valuable.

I'll always prefer an actual copy of the game. I don't ever resell my games so the aforementioned reasons are not the cause. As strange as it sounds I miss the smell of flipping through the manual of a new game.

^^ if that were 100% true you would be able to buy the majority of games via digital codes from European retailers.

Game companies also know they can charge higher the way it is, and possibly make as much or more money than going all digital, and they will hang onto tat as long as possible.

  11. Far too many pros and cons to list but here is my TOP reason not to go digital at all.

Digital can be completely taken away from you (Stolen if you will) for a number of reasons by either M or devs. And they do it digitally even as you watch.

Physical ownership is 9/10ths of the law. Which means dispite even policy changes, belongs to You, and even if your system, the net itself, or even Corperate GIANTS goes belly up, remains yours to do with as you see fit. Including collecting, selling, or
even, if you so desire. Using as a coster so as not to scuff up your table.

#2 Used physical games helps the economies of many Nations by employing people and also helps to sell consoles which otherwise would simply collect dust.

Yes, I am sure a good number of console sales was due to people buying something that they really couldnt afford. Yet was banking on the fact that they could gain some enjoyment from it by buying 2nd hand games for it. With digital though..

    Thats not happening!

Thus in conclusion. Purchasing digital games is tadamount to purchasing pigs in a poke. For one day you may be unlucky enough to go scrolling through you HDD only to find nothing but empty space where your games was supposed to be.

I bet its easier for MS to get into your console and take ur games than it is to get into his house.

get banned, see if you have your game collection then.

  15. I'll stick with physical, because it's cheaper, unless it's an absolute must have game.

Hey MS! How can we Pre Order games we want to Download???

If Microsoft wants me to convert to digital downloads and NOT BUY A PHYSICAL DISC...they need to make digital downloads cheaper than disc!!!!!

$45.00 for digital vs $60.00 for disc.....THEN IM GOING DIGITAL ,......

can I play games that were not bought in xbox store without discs using xbox live account?

No, the disc copies of games you purchased need to have the disc in the console to play, even after installation. There are upsides and downsides to disc vs. downloaded games, this is one of the downsides of buying a physical copy.
