Disc tray problems

Yesterday at 5 pm my Xbox was fine but unfortunately later that evening the disc tray stopped working. I just got off the phone with Xbox support, did what they could in a polite and respectful manner. Inevitably once we got past the "did you unplug it"
and "hard reset" it was time to talk about sending it in for servicing what surprised me was the cost of it, 135 dollars to fix a machine I've paid $500 for. Now I could go into the launch of this system riddled with issues, the days of it not working and
all the frustrating error messages we received. This system is less than two years old and they said it does not have extended warranty , the idea that we would have to pay for an electronic error or fault in the machine after less than two years is ludacris
to me. I have been with Xbox for 5 years and this is what happens, nothing I did to the machine its natural break down is less than two years that's what you get when you buy a new system from Microsoft ?

Sometimes my Xbox One won't read discs.

It's a problem with the disc drive where it doesn't always drop the disc into the tray and spin it. Hard rebooting fixes the problem, as does continuously insert/eject over and over.

The issue is most likely due to the small rubber band that connects the two gears that control the open and close of the tray. As stated above, you can contact Microsoft for a repair.

I am sorry to hear about your issues with your Xbox. I would suggest doing a factory reset to see if that may fix any issues you are having. In the event that it doesn't you will need to send it in for repair and it seems you are out of warranty from what
you said in your post. The Xbox warranty is for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase (which is pretty standard with electronic devices).

I understand your frustration but you may have to send it in for repair at the cost quoted by support. The bright side is that it is considerably less than purchasing a new Xbox One.
