Discus and support Disc Reading in XBoX Games and Apps to solve the problem; I'm trying to play Black Ops and when I insert the game into my system it is being read as a DVD, and the disc is clean and scratch free.     Disc Reading


    I'm trying to play Black Ops and when I insert the game into my system it is being read as a DVD, and the disc is clean and scratch free. But it's not reading as a game.

    You believe?? LOL I will try it.

    Do you know if the disc has to be finalized or not? The console recognized immediately that is was a multi-media disc, hoping that was a good sign. lol

    Sounds like your disc drive or your laser may be faulty. The only thing you can do is possibly either send the console in for repair or to purchase a new one I'm afraid Disc Reading :(

    Disc Reading

    When your Xbox 360 starts reading games as "DVDs", this is probably an indicator that the drive is dying.

    You can try a few things though:

    • See if deleting the system cache will help things. (instructions)
    • Check if your Black Ops game is readable in another Xbox 360. I actually own a couple Xbox 360 games that are clean with minimal scratches, but they cannot be read by any Xbox 360! I've tried my friend's, my brother's, and my spare Xbox 360 in the closet
      -- unreadable or "DVD".
    • Is your Xbox 360 still under warranty? Register the serial number on your Microsoft Account (if you haven't, already), and see if you have any options. Consoles typically have one year warranty from purchase.

    Unless things have changed without anyone telling me, Xbox 360 S consoles only have a 1 year general warranty period, and original Xbox 360 consoles have a 1 year general warranty and a 3 year warranty for the three flashing red lights and E74.

    Regardless of console, a faulty DVD drive is covered under 1 year only.

    To the original poster, make sure you test multiple discs to confirm the problem is with the console and not a specific or few specific discs. If it is your console and it's less than a year old, contact Xbox Support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

    Take to gamestop and see if they can buff-out the game ..That's one thing I like to get a scratched game from a friend for free cause they think it doesn't work then take it to have it get buffed, then it works and play fine like a new cd ....lol suckers!!!!

    For most games I recommend you install the game in the hard drive it makes the CD spin allot less
