Disc Problem

I don't know if it is just me but since the june update when i insert a disc it plays then goes back to the dashboard so i have to click start again

If you have a problem loading a game, try loading another one, then back to the other game.

I had a problem loading a disc last night and it would go to the main screen then back home. I started PowerStar Golf, then
went back to the disc game and it was fine.

You can chat with Microsoft as you are chatting with us, through texts. It's one of the options rather than being on the phone with them.

I've also never heard of them blowing people off on this topic. They're usually good with this stuff from what I've heard.

 

For me, I can't play nothing except regular DVDs. No games, no Blu rays. Contact MS support, and after 2 hours of trying to fix it, they said it has to be sent for repair.

All I can suggest is contact MS support.

Having similar problem now too - unable to read any of my discs all of the sudden...

 

Have we tried a hard reset (hold down power sensor on the front while on for 10 secs, release for 10 secs, and turn back on) or even gone so far as to do a factory reset (Settings -> System -> Restore factory Defaults)?

Try one or both of these options and let me know how it turns out.

 

I am having similier problems insert any game disc or bluray or DVD and it doesn't read. Instead thgebvsystem says the bdisc can't be read and to insert another. Try any other disc still no work. Hard reset console works every time for the first disc. But
try the second disc and same issue repeats. This has only been since the June update.

 

Additionally, I would suggest (in addition to BigBen's suggestion) that you make sure you are QUITTING from each game, instead of just backing out to the home screen using the Nexus button on your controller.

The reason for this is, if you open other games/apps and then back out of them, they are still using available system memory in the background, for the purposes of quickly resuming where you left off.

If you press the nexus button to go to your HOME screen, then highlight the main (largest) tile showing the program you just closed. Press the Menu (old Start) button, and choose "Quit" from the list. This will completely end the program and free up any memory
it was using.

I notice oftentimes when I have a game quitting back to the home screen it is because there are too many running programs in the background.

Another alternative to this would be go turn off the "Resume Games Quickly" option, which is located here:

Menu --> Settings --> Power & Startup. Uncheck the "Resume... " box.

Getting ready to ship it out... just doesnt make sense why the drive suddenly stops working?

still feels like software issue... but i guess several people's normally working xbox ones's optical drive could have started failing independently..

Got my Xbox from repair. I can finally use my discs now. I installed 2 games and was able to play them. Haven't seen if a blu ray movie will play yet but will check that out later tonight hopefully.
