Disc not reading

so I've looked around and I can't really find the answer I'm looking for, when I load a disc into my Xbox it'll either make sort of a sound like the disc isn't spinning and the motor that spins it is just tearing up the disc hole (which I figured out it
is doing, some of my games are a little chewed up), or it makes a little sound like the disc reader isn't going over it but nothing happens. No error code, no game, movie, or CD popping up, and I usually end up having to eject and reinsert the disc several
times before it plays. Anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about taking it to best buy but I hear they can be a rip off. I feel like Microsoft repair will be major $$$ as well. I'm pretty handy (i work On cars, metal fabrication, etc) so I feel like
I could tackle replacing the disc drive or whatever it's called. Is that a viable option?

Unless things have changed without anyone telling me, Xbox 360 S consoles only have a 1 year general warranty period, and original Xbox 360 consoles have a 1 year general warranty and a 3 year warranty for the three flashing red lights and E74.

Regardless of console, a faulty DVD drive is covered under 1 year only.

To the original poster, make sure you test multiple discs to confirm the problem is with the console and not a specific or few specific discs. If it is your console and it's less than a year old, contact Xbox Support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

here if your Xbox One console isn't reading disc properly, but if those don't help then the best option would be to send your console into our service center for a repair. Repairing the console yourself is not something that you'd want to do as it violates
