Disc drive taking a while to read discs

Tried searching the forum and didn't see any specific posts about this yet...

Since the October update my disc drive has been taking longer to read a disc. I get no specific error. I put a disc in and the screen will continue to say "Insert disc" for a couple of minutes before the game is displayed. The Xbox isn't making any strange
noises. Like I said, this has only been happening since the latest software update so I'm hoping it's that and not a hardware issue.

Anyone else experiencing this?

not reading disc

can anyone tell me how to tell what type of disc drive i have in an xbox 360 slim with out taking it apart my disc drive wont read discs and would like to get a new one thanks

[/quote]Disc drives not reading disc is a symptom of a faulty disc drive. No system update is ever going to fix that.

 

My disc drive has also started taking considerably longer to read discs this month for some reason although mine takes around 30 seconds or so rather than minutes like OP, and even more worryingly it about 1/4 of the time when I put a disc in the drive will
make a grinding noise and refuse to attempt to load it at all!

 

This issue popped up for me last night, and it seems to be related to game's being updated. I have a feeling you might be seeing the same issue. Does it occur if you wait, launch the game, then eject the disc and try to launch again?

that ant guy - mine isn't grinding or making any unusual noises. I'd probably send it in for repair if it did.

Magaman - it does happen even if I eject the game and put it right back in. Also, I just tried a couple of Blu-ray movies and the tile changed right away to show there was a Blu ray in the drive. So I guess it's just happening with games. The good part about
that is I'm guessing it's software related and not a hardware issue(or at least hoping).

 

Mine may be dong the same thing. Although I currently class it as the console not reading the disc at all as I am too impatient to wait. Although most the time it does read the disc very quickly <10 secs. So it would appear to happen intermittently for me.
Currently chatting to Xbox support about it.

 

Also to add, yes it may well be a software glitch (hopefully). Also I find that I have issues reading game discs after playing a DVD/Blu Ray.

 

Sorry to spam the thread. Xbox Support have just advised me to clear the MAC address on the console.. I have no idea how this would relate to a disc read error. Clearing the MAC address gets rid of unwanted files. Going to try it regardless..

 

I've noticed this too since the latest update (Oct) my game discs take about 10 secs to start whereas before it was more or less straight away

Everything else is fine though, and like the OP said, Blu Rays start straight away, so its probably just a software thing

Sounds like there's a good chance it's a software issue. I was at the mall yesterday so I stopped in at the MS Store to ask them about it. They suggested doing a wipe and fresh restore on the system. I was already thinking of doing this but hoping to avoid
it. I'm probably going to wait for the November update to see if that fixes it first.

 

Not noticed any problems as of yet. Although I need to test it for the next few days as it only happens occasionally.

Clearing the Mac address clears junk files apparently and forces a restart. Worth a try I suppose.

 

Having the same issue here - games take about 30 seconds to show up on the home screen. Tried the MAC address thing, as well as forcing a restart by holding the power button for 10 seconds, but no change. Only happened in the last week or two.

 

Hate to say it guys but your Xbox One will be in need of servicing soon. I had that problem as well. A few months later it will not read any blu ray at all, just regular DVDs. I had to send my Xbox in for repair.

 

Just like Hsoj said, you will have to set up a repair for your consoles. You can do this 1 of 2 ways.

1) Go to myservice.xbox.com and set up the repair yourself

2) Call 1-800-4My-xbox and set up a repair with an agent.
