Functionally, the disc drive works fine. I also understand with the Elites, the disc drive is still loud when you play games off the disc. However, if make sure the disc drive is empty and then play a game off of the hard drive, while playing, the disc
will loudly spin for a few seconds, then off for a few seconds. What do I do?

Drive literally won't stop running

Games not yet installed to the hard drive, and Xbox 360 "Arcade" titles published to disc (Minecraft, The Walking Dead, etc) will constantly require the disc drive to load files. The latter is due to the fact that you cannot install
Arcade discs to the hard drive.

In terms of noise, game discs tend to spin faster than movie DVDs. The drive will constantly spin so disc data is readily accessible at any given moment. Significantly louder noises than usual from the disc drive may indicate age
or wear in the components within.

You can try repositioning the console (vertical or horizontal, while turned off), and see if the different position helps dampen the vibrations causing the loud noises.

Dreamcast Collection Installation issue.

After installing the dreamcast collection from disc to my 360 hard-drive when i play the game it still reads it off the disc.

My disc drive is really noisy so I always install to my hard drive, having to put up with that noise whilst playing is more than a little annoying.

You do nothing. It's checking for a disc in the drive. I have an old 2007 console so I know how loud they can get, but this is just how the console is made. When a game boots, the dashboard is cleared from memory, and things get re-loaded. (Which is why
if you start a game and press the Xbox Guide button, it 'signs you out'--it actually doesn't, it reloads that, and sees that you're signed in). When it gets reloaded, things like disc initialization and Xbox Guide menu get reloaded, which is why you get that
spin up.

It still takes time to read the game off the hard drive, just like with reading a game off the disc. The hard drive is just a bit faster, and you don't have to have a disc spinning constantly and wearing down your disc drive when it's on the hard drive.

Like I said, as long as it's installed it should play off the hard drive no matter how you start the game. The disc will still spin at start up and sometimes they do spin during the game. The only way to play it without having to use the disc drive at all
would be to download the game digitally.

well, that shouldn't be happening other than during install. when you play a game it plays off the hard drive. so the disc should only spin up to verify the game and then stop.
