Disc drive read error problems

Afte yesterday buying copies of Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age for my Xbox One, my disc drive has now started to get disc drve error (i.e do you own this disc or app etc) and takes several attempts to get it to play the discs. I have also now started to hear a
crunching sound on some occasions

I just read an article that says Microsoft is acknowledging faulty disc drives in some Xbox One units. Some people are having a problem with the drive making a grinding noise and not reading the disc, so if you have this problem, you're not alone!

Send it in to Xbox repair, they will fix it for free. I have the same issue and mine is with them now.

Its an inconvenience not being able to play your games while its being repaired, but at least it will cost you no money and it will be good as new when it gets back.

 

It's not a hardware problem it's a software problem. To many consoles have started doing this the same as in a previous beta update, thanks anyhow

 

If you bought it in the UK the retailer you bought it from should replace it for you.

Just go to the drawer where you keep the receipts for expensive electronics purchases and fish out your receipt and get it sorted.

 

@ YellowArmy - I had exactly the same problem recently. Funnily enough these problems only started to occur after the November update, although that could be entirely coincidental.

I had bought Sunset Overdrive, which my console stopped reading after the initial install. That is, if I put another disc in the drive and then placed Sunset Overdrive back in the Xbox One it wouldn't read the disc at all. At first I thought it was just
the disc, as my other games read fine, but when I bought Dragons Age Inquisition the same thing happened again, although this time the disc insertion was accompanied by a loud crunching noise. Not good!

I had my console replaced today, and so far so good. Both Sunset Overdrive and Dragon's Age had no problem upon inserting the disc, although the Dragon's Age disc did sound noisier than the other disc when I inserted it into the drive. Seems odd!

Overall I'm disappointed with the lifespan of the disc drive. Every retail game you buy gets installed to the HDD, so the actual drive shouldn't be used that much. It's been Less than a year in and the thing goes kaput! Not happy! I hope Microsoft hasn’t
got an inherent problem on their hands with this drive, because I definitely won't be entertaining the prospect of constant repairs.
