    Disc Drive Noise


    This is my 2nd 'new' Xbox in 2 months, had to get my original replaced by my retailer because Xbox were incapable of sending me a brand new working advanced exchange unit, after two attempts.

    Just noticed that my disc drive has started making a noise, it occurs sometime within the first 30 seconds or so of putting in a disc, it lasts for about 10 seconds and it is audible from across the room.

    Looking around on here I've noticed a couple of other threads pop up about this issue, yet there has been no response. I'm wondering if this has been caused by the recent update, much like the black screen problem following the Feb update. The discs still
    read fine and apart from that 10 seconds of noise everything appears to be working properly.

    Disc drives malfunctioning in Xbox One units

    I just read an article that says Microsoft is acknowledging faulty disc drives in some Xbox One units. Some people are having a problem with the drive making a grinding noise and not reading the disc, so if you have this problem, you're not alone!

    I think the original Xbox was the loudest console I owned. Even then, I never minded the noise, really. What kind of noise are you guys talking about? Fans, disc drive, or general clicky noises from the hard drive?

    Still think this is because of the update, never happened before. Has there been any confirmation from the Devs that this is because of the update?

    Is there any way to remove the update to see if it still happens?

    CD Drive Noise?

    You'll never have a 100% silent disc drive when it is reading data from the disc. As long as it is still reading/detecting the disc fine and not a loud grinding noise, I wouldn't worry about it.

    Hmm, a clicking noise...could be the hard drive.

    It could just be the motor in the disc drive is getting older. I have an Elite model and it started to make noises like you described, but they eventually stopped. If it isn't hurting discs then it is probably just the motor in the drive making noise.

    What do you mean by "ventilation noise"? Can you describe it with a little more detail?

    The only thing you should hear is the system fan whirring, the hard drive making spinny/clicky noises, and the disc drive spinning the disc.

    Yes some DVD drives are like that, and is perfectly normal, if you want to cut down the noise, then if you have a xbox 360 hard drive installed, you can install the games and that will help cut down the noise, as the game will play from the hard drive instead
    of the disc.(You will still need the disc in the drive to play though).
