Disc Drive Noise, Drive Running 100% of the time

Okay so my Xbox works fine, but i have recently noticed a humming noise from the console not to loud but you can hear it and its annoying, I have narrowed this down to the disc drive, when no disc in the drive the console is very quite and the noise is gone,
once you insert a disc even though its still on the dashboard and the disc is not needed the sound of the system completely changes, its almost as if its running the disc 100% of the time.

Game not playing off usb drive

So i installed disc one on my HDD, and then I bought a flash drive to install disc 2 on it so it wouldnt run on my disc drive cause its makes so much noise. Its worked a few times where I dont hear the disc drive but most of the time its just running off
the disc drive :/ I have all my saves on the flash drive and I still dont know how to make it so it reads the game from the flash drive and not the disk drive. Someone help?

You'll never have a 100% silent disc drive when it is reading data from the disc. As long as it is still reading/detecting the disc fine and not a loud grinding noise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmm, a clicking noise...could be the hard drive.

 

I'm having this exact same issue. This is the third console I've had (in less than two months since first purchasing) so I'd rather avoid another replacement if possible. Any help much appreciated.

 

From my experience to get an issue like this resolved you have 2 options and 2 options only.

If this is an update related issue, you need to get some video evidence of the drive noise and try to get a member of staff here on the forum to forward it to the tech staff to investigate. I've had this done successfully in March and it was fixed during
the April update.

If it is not update related and not fixable via a patch, then you would have no choice but to replace your console. I would strongly suggest returning it to the place you bought it and be prepared to prove your case that it is faulty and must be replaced.
If you get a replacement through Xbox directly there is a very high probability of receiving a refurbished console, that and their advanced exchange system is absolutely appalling (I went through two and got 2 refurbished, yet still faulty, consoles and was
even charged £400 for one when the system didn't see I had returned it - though I was refunded days later).
