Disc Drive NO WAY!?!?

Am I either one of the most unlucky Xbox users or are people just not paying attention?

A few months ago I noticed my discs seemed to be getting marks on them inside of the One drive. Either when it ejects or when it is inserted. I at first thought maybe I will just live with it because it doesnt seem to affect the function of the system and
the scratches aren't severe. Although common sense would say this can be the start of something much worse so obviously I decided to do an advanced exchange.

While researching this problem....I am able to find NOTHING...NOTHING what so ever about anyone else having this issue. Whats even more ridiculous is Bing (ironic) seems to have zero results about faulty Xbox One disc drives outside of the launch....as if
NO ONE out of millions of customers is going online with this problem but me. Surely I just didnt win the lottery of bad luck?

This is where it takes off for me. I got my advanced exchange today. Guess what guys? This "new" Xbox one which obviously is used has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE ONE I AM EXCHANGING. I inserted a disc and didnt even CHECK it because I thought at first.
What could the odds of this one having the same problem as my other one when no one online is talking about it? 1 in 10,000?! Sure enough just to be thorough before I mail my other one in I decide to check....sure enough....I put in a brand new DVD disc and
it comes out with markings on it. Even worse is once I noticed this....I made everything in my house silent so I could hear my Xbox one perfectly...this drive sounds even louder than my old one. It sounds unnatural like theres something wrong with it.

How could I possibley have this problem no one else seems to have? Then just so happen to get sent anothe Xbox One with the exact same problem? The odds of that happening seem ABSURD. Unless people are just not looking hard enough. Please people....eject
a disc and get a really good look in a good light...look at it on an angle and everything....do you see any scratch type markings MAINLY on the outer edge of the disc? This is RIDICULOUS.

I am now having other issues with the so called new one that I never had with the others. I need a way to ensure I actually get sent a new console because this is absolutely RIDICULOUS and unnacceptable. Its like they just flat out do not care when it comes
to customer service. It seems testing is something that simply doesnt happen.

 

Sorry to hear this is still happening to you. Unfortunately there is nothing anyone on the forums can do to help you. Please contact phone support again and let them know what is happening. Perhaps they can set you up with an Advance Exchange so they
will send a new console to you before you need to send yours in.

 

Thats why im posting it here. I DID the advanced exhange. The new console does the exact same thing as the old one....a problem that seemingly no one has but me. The new console is worse as its buggy and acts weird....but thats besides the point.

Did I really just have a problem no one else has had? On two different consoles? Surely some other people have this. Or can look at their discs super close to make sure theres no imprints on the outer edges.

 

It could be simply a coincidence. As I stated, contact phone support and explain the situation to them. They should be able to get you set up with another console.

 

You are not the only one with this Problem, had already 4 Consoles within a Month and every one had their own Problems. 3 of them did also put some marks on the Discs, tried cleaning the "tray" with a soft cloth inserted the Disk 2-3 Times and the Drive
did it again just annoying.

Console Setup was: 2* Xbox One + Kinect (First one did it second not) / 2* White Xbox One (both did it)

right now i'm waiting for the Money from Amazon and ignore the One for another 3-6 Months in hope they get the Quality right, till then i'm gonna play on the 360/ps3 *grrr*

 

YES! YES! YES! THANK YOU Zolthan there is another person who has this *** problem. That is EXACTLY what mine is doing but your actually look more severe. Are they actual scratches at this point and not just marks? Meaning can you wipe them off? I appear
to be able to wipe them off. I wish someone who knew anything about drives could at least comment on what could cause that. You are the only person I have ever ran into who had this issue as well.

OMG you went through that many? Did you ever try demanding they ACTUALLY give you a brand new console and not some garbadge someone sent in to be fixed that they ignored? Not only is support ABYSMAL. I noticed that they dont even seem to properly report
what our problems are so thats why people keep getting sent TRASH consoles that arent even fixed. The person I talked to when I did the exchange put down my drive is unreadable simply because it scratching the discs wasnt a choice.....

 

I seriously do not understand why information about this online is so absent. There is virtually NO ONE talking about this anywhere. Yet I got two consoles and you got 3 that did this?

Im not beyond suspecting MS can somehow put money in some pockets to keep certain search results to not show up. You search for disc drive issues for the Xbox One you find absolutely nothing other than the launch problems that they claim affected only 5%
of the people.

I also noticed I now had the option to bu ya warranty because the new console came....I noticed its 70$. What on earth are they actually planning to charge if you DONT have a warranty? Wasnt the 360 like 100 dollars? So they are actually going to have the
balls to charge even more than 100 this time around? It must....because its hardly gonna save anyone trouble to pay 70 instead of 100 when they might not even have to.

 

Ive been doing a back in forth on Twitter too because I have tried getting help in every which way. The guy JN said he has never seen this issue at all. People start throwing this at the higher ups....theres no way this dude got 3 and I got 2 if this problem
really is as rare as the tech is making it seem. They havent heard of it! No one claims to.

I dont want to sound obnoxious when I say this but earlier when I was showing a friend the marks on the disc I took it to another room. I was amazed at how the light in another room made it nearly impossible to see the scratches. Could the tech guys just
not be seeing this? Its not often ppl stare at a clean looking disc. Take it back to the room I use my one in and the scratches are clear as day. 2-3 new ones every time I eject just like in that guys picture.

 

nah those aren't scratches can wipe them off easily, what i don't get i also put some fresh DVD-R into the drive the Discs for cross checking they don't get any marks on it's surface and as soon as i put an BluRay Disc in those marks appear.

All Consoles i had where brand-new i've got them replaced by Amazon.de didn't even Bother with MS since i was in the 30-Day Return Rule of Amazon *phew*.

Right now it looks like this for me (Past XBox One Consoles):

June 2014:

2* XBox One Consoles Titanfall Bundle:

#1 had a broken Ethernet Port

#2 broken WiFi for Controller Connection, didn't get a stable connection Out-of-the-Box

- got my Money back didn't want a third one maybe the whole charge was faulty dunno.

October 2014:

2* XBox One + Kinect Consoles [both had Coil Whine even with Kinect attached on Dashboard, October Update didn't change anything]:

#1 (MFD 2014-02-23) Marks on Disc like the ones in the photo, got Replacement from Amazon

#2 (MFD 2014-02-24) no Marks on Disc but faulty PSU, called MS if i can keep the PSU frome Console #1 but they said "nope u can't" stupid Serial on PSU *grml* > back to Amazon.de & got my Money back

2* Sunset Overdrive Bundle:

#1 (MFD 2014-08-27) Marks on Disc, faulty PSU* > Returned

#2 (MFD 2014-08-28) Marks on Disc and yet again Noisy PSU, since i already ordered an extra PSU via Microsoft which arrived Yesterday and guess what broken yet again*.

out of 5 PSUs i've had in October/November 2014 3 of them are making this annoying noise, putting the Marks on Disc issue aside i love the Quality of the Console -.-°.

If i include the Consoles from June out of 7 PSUs a total of 4 are making the same sound, great.

And right back to the great MS Support:

Called Yesterday again with them (before i noticed the actual Console i've had did those Marks again) and they said that the Noise of the PSU is normal (yeah right) but offered an exchange.

Right now i'm done with MS i'll let them replace the PSU and when it arrives i'll put it on eBay, Console is going back to Amazon and i get my Money back. The Quality is realy great... NOT.

 

This is legitimately the weirdest issue I have ever had. Even more so now that you have shared your experience.

How could you have gotten so many Ones that have issues? Let alone the disk mark thing like I have and no one else? Me and you have had it multiple times each yet it seems such an uncommon issue they dont talk about it online. Twitter support feels I can
dang near feel them about to call me a liar.

Just for the sake of it....is there ANY way you are causing the marks? I had to second guess myself with how weird this problem is. There is absolutely nothing I could be doing to cause this. My one sits flat on a shelf completely unhindered by anything
and it lays straight. I am 100% sure it didnt always do this either because I would have noticed.

I bought Destiny and Murdered Soul Suspect and upon swapping them out I started to notice those....and they got extremely ugly really quickly and thats when I discovered it. I would have noticed it before had it been happening...I rent games and I make sure
I return the discs in good format so I would have seen this before. For me this started sometime in September.

I have a hunch that the people taking our orders in dont report this correctly and the tech guys dont look for what they arent told about. Still with 10 million consoles sold it seems absurd this story wouldnt have made the rounds in any of the repair centers
that the disc drives are messing with the discs.

The marks dont bother me...what bothers me is that there is obviously something that broke in the drive an or can become worse later and actually destroy my games.

What you said about the DVD is even more weird. Are you totally sure it doesnt affect DVDs? That makes no sense AT ALL. For me....I specifically used brand new DVDRs to confirm it WAS in fact marking up my discs.

I legitimately never thought I would be one of those ppl being like yeah im gonna jump ship to Sony. But if I don't get sent a new console I might. This is complete BS and theres no excuse for it. Yeah hardware fails....but to send me another broken one
too and be so clueless about your own system to act like an error doesnt exist?

 

Well all i can say is after i noticed the marks on the BluRay (Movie) Disc the only Disc i had right by my site was a DVD-R after putting it in, ejected it an no marks at all.

After that i inserted Horizon 2 for the next day ejected it to test and the marks where right back switched back to the DVD-R and no marks. I've even put the Horizon 2 Disc into the Wii U to check that it was the Disc that had a issues ejected it an no marks
at all. I've repeated this serveral times with the same result. Something seems fishy to me with the Drive.

The Horizon 2 Disc got the History with the other Consoles but the Movie Disk had no marks at all before i inserted it and after i watched the Movie i ejected it and the Result is the Marks in the Picture.

I've multiple Slot-In Drives in use (PS3 Fat & Slim, WiiU, Wii) and with neither one of them i had this issue. Also i tread my Gamediscs carefully even my PS2 and my PS3 Games from 2007 are looking brand-new, except some games where i hit this "marks" problems
but that are only 3 Discs out of 70 Discs (Movie & Games combined).

As for the Place the console sits, it's pretty stable and flat and had no Problems with the PS3 in the last 3 Years.

To me the marks are looking like the mechanics are loosing some grease but how the hell did that get in contact with the Disc?

I also have only One Disc Game (Horizon 2) the others (Titanfall, Diablo III...) are GOD, the last white Console was from November 4th (thats when i recieved the replacement), i inserted the Horizon 2 Disc Ejected it with the results of no Marks inserted
it again and it stayed about 8 Days in the Console.

Yesterday i wanted to see a movie and noticed yet again the same Marks after watchin the Flick of course the H2 Disc had them as well.

 

Ill be on the phone with them sometime today. I am not looking forward to it. Seems the twitter support has taken to ignoring me after asking a series of questions that suggest they think I am a complete idiot or a liar.

THat is the weirdest thing I have ever heard regarding the One. Assuming we both aren't hallucinating the same exact scratches on our discs. Then something is cuasing them....what could POSSIBLY cause yours to not scratch DVDs though? Thats really strange.....all
things considered a blu ray should be harder to mark up I guess...well scratch anyways.

I just hope they dont give me crap...I did this KNOWING I wasnt going to be ripping them off or something. But I can see some dumb mistake in this terrible service getting some wires crossed and ending up charging me the 400 because I sent back the replacement
and not mine.

I can't explain what I think the marks are.....they appear in a circular fashion....yet only seem to occur either when the disc is ejected or inserted....NOT when its actually spinning. Which makes no sense because it looks like it spins and hits something
each time that happens. You would think installing a game would cause it to tear the crap out of it if thats the case but no. Really annoying to have this issue at the time of the year when the One finally has an abundance of games.
