    Called Xbox Support today and was told it will cost me $135 to fix the faulty disc drive. Man do I feel good for buying the Day One edition of the console. I'll never be an early adopter again. Could've saved $150 and probably gotten a working disc drive.
    Terrible customer service because I'm 10 days out of the "grace period." They treat me like I haven't been a subscriber to Xbox Live since the original Xbox. I just feel like this is a trick. My warranty expires and I have no shot to fix the console unless
    I cough up 135 dollars (which is almost half of what I would pay for a brand spanking new one in stores). Sad day.

    Disc drive while spinning noise.

    Whenever I put a disc in the disc drive and it starts spinning, it makes a rattling noise. It has no warranty, it has been opened by the local pc shop in town and cleaned out for dust bunnies. Noise didn't start till this morning. What can I do to make this
    stop? It doesn't make the noise if I install the disc onto the hard drive. But I wont have enough space to install all my games. Please help Disc Drive Makes Noise and Everything but doesn't recognize the disc :(

    R2D2 noises

    My Star Wars edition Xbox makes the disc eject noises at all hours of the day (console turned on and off), the drive doesn't come out it just makes the noise.

    Hi, There has never been a disc drive app that tells you if the disc in the drive or not. If the drive recognizes a disc, then it will show, if it doesn't, then it wont. That is how it has always been.

    It could just be the motor in the disc drive is getting older. I have an Elite model and it started to make noises like you described, but they eventually stopped. If it isn't hurting discs then it is probably just the motor in the drive making noise.

    I have had the same problem since launch, it drives me nuts........ Why does it spin, the games are installed, all it needs to do is verify the disc is there and stop spinning. I assume its spinning as it doesn't make the noise with. No disc....

    That is just the hard disc turning on. It's a big machine at some point is bound to make some noise as all hard disc drives.
