Disc Drive Issues on replacement Xbox

I sent my first Xbox One in for a replacement because I was having an issue with the disk drive. I thought, at the time, that it was a rare issue because I hadn't heard anything else about it. Obviously, I heard about the completely broken drives with
the loose gear or whatever, but mine was working about half the time and failing to recognize a disk in the drive the other half of the time. Anyway, I sent it back and got the replacement sometime before Christmas.

When the replacement came, I assumed it was fine, but I probably only put one disk in during the first two weeks or so cause they gave me a free copy of Forza 5 (digital), that I was playing. It turns out the replacement has the exact same problem. I don't
have any physical games to try out right now (waiting for Thief), but all the blu-rays I put in take 2 or 3 times of being reinserted before I can get anything other than "insert disc" on the home screen. It also makes a loud noise (sounds kind of like a
printer, or something) about 1 out of every 6 times I put a disk in. I've put off replacing it again because I've been busy with school, but I'm thinking I should probably go ahead and do it.

So, my question is whether this is a general defect with all the disc drives; am I just going to end up with a third one that does the same thing if I try to replace? And, Is it something that's likely to get worse if I don't get it replaced (obviously,
I don't want to end up with a fully non-functioning drive 3 days out of warranty, which would be my luck)? Thanks for any help.

Microsoft giving free digital games for users with broken disc drives

Well, Microsoft is doing something at least. This is a great compensation for the new Xbox One owners out there still having the disc drive issues. Now at least with the free game choices (like Dead Rising 3 --- yes!) they should have something to occupy their time while the disc drive problem gets the solution.

 

Discs wont read, weird thudding sound and nothing reads not games or movies

You'll get a replacement console, and another free game for disc drive issues, also you can use Games on Demand until you get your replacement.

 

I suggest that you start the process of getting an advanced replacement. However this time try the drive out as soon as you get it,that way you can avoid going through all this again.

 

Having the same problem with mine. Has been getting worse with time. How long did it take for MSFT to replace you Xbox 1. Went through 6 xbox 360's not looking forward to this again.

 

When I went through the advanced replacement program I received my replacement system in 4 days. Set it up to verify that it worked then sent old system back in same box with free return shipping label.
