Disc Drive App

For the love of god bring back the disc drive app so I can at least know if my Xbox is recognising a disc and it'll say on the dash if the disc is in the drive. Popping a disc in and out for hours is NOT fun and I can't just press the disc app to try again
if it isn't working.

I've had a day one Xbox and an Xbox one X both having issues where there are a few disc it won't read and not having that app makes it impossible to troubleshoot.

It's absolutely infuriating. Luckily the one x is in warranty so I'll have to send it back I guess but it's stupid not having the old disc app. Who made the decision to remove it? Sack them!

Instant switching Question

Not between disc based games you can't, the disc has to be in the drive. But you can quick switch between a game and apps, or any downloaded games you've got.

 

Blu Ray Movie Stuck on Loading Screen

Upon putting a Blu-ray Disc into the machine and loading the app, the console doesn't load the content. It's currently stuck on the loading screen with the disc drive searching the disc. Anyone else have this issue?

 

Hi, There has never been a disc drive app that tells you if the disc in the drive or not. If the drive recognizes a disc, then it will show, if it doesn't, then it wont. That is how it has always been.

 

Nope, ive had an Xbox One since day one. It originally had a disc drive app. If you wipe an original xbox one (day one edition) back to factory defaults and dont connect it to the internet you get the app... aaaaaaand I literally just watched some test the
disc which I thought was faulty at a game store doing exactly that. It worked on their machine.

Im just getting fed up of disc drive faults. I would have zero issue if it consistently worked.

 

You're not talking about the disc drive tile by any chance which pops up on the dashboard whenever you insert a disc after it has been read?

 

Never has been a disc drive app on the Xbox One platform. There is a notification icon on the dashboard if you have a disc inserted, but this has never been an 'App'.

If you have to keep removing a disc and re-inserting it to play, there is clearly a hardware fault with the console. If your Blu-ray drive is failing, a 'disc drive app' would make no difference.

 

Yes, I know its not an 'APP' its just easier to describe the tile that way and YES, i know its a hardware fault... i'm not a moron. Having a tile that you can press to re-attempt reading a disc or at least give some indication of a disc in the drive is a
damn site easier to troubleshoot than sitting on the floor popping a disc in and out all of the time with no feedback at all other than a whirling drive sound.

.... and YES there was a blank tile that showed discs on the original xbox one. It wasnt an app, it was just there by default. It had a blank disc icon when no disc was inserted, it didn't pop up AFTER the disc was inserted it was just there BUT they removed
it a really long time ago.

 

If my reply seemed rude and abrupt, I apologise. And I can understand your frustration with your broken console.

What you're describing is like double clicking on a DVD or Blu-ray drive in Windows, attempting to read a disc. Problem is, if the drive itself is faulty, no matter how many times you double click or re-insert the disc, it's not going to make much difference.

Perhaps you would like some kind of disc reading checking ability troubleshooting as part of a new system update?

Will still get a few posts here about failed drives, although not as many as the 360 days - mainly because games run entirely from the hard drive now, with the Blu-ray drive only being used to install games from disc and initial reads for anti-piracy purposes
once a disc game is installed.

Despite this, the Xbox One Blu-ray drive is a mechanical unit, and as such, it's not a case of 'if' it will fail, it's 'when'. A well built drive can last years, alas, this isn't always the case.
