Disaster First Time User Set Up Experience - HELP

I'm truly shocked how bad the XBox One set up experience is for a first time XBox customer like me. I just purchased this new yesterday with Kinect bundle at my local Game Stop. The horrible problems:

1. Advertised storage is "500GB". After initial network connect and system update I'm left with 303GB, a 40% loss of storage from what's advertised. This is scandalous. I'm furious. I mean, I expect 10-20% at most for system and apps, but 60% remaining is
   truly disastrous. And these games and content are huge. I want to demand MSFT buys me a free external drive for baiting and switching me.
   
2. Charged for Gamertag changes? $9.95? What a joke! Greedy bastards. My daughter "makes me" set a first gamertag name. Then I change it due to a typo (my free change). Then later I decide it sucks and want my own name. Now I'm surprised that I have to pay
   $9.95 to change it? There WAS NO ALERT OR DESCRIPTION BEFORE SETTING OR CHANGING MY GAMERTAG that I had such restrictions. It should be free forever to change.
   
3. I can't just insert a DVD game and play? My first game to install is Halo Masterchief. After 7 hours, it's still loading, and only has installed 67%. I mean, come on. This is also ridiculous.
   

These three blunders are epic. I'm an experienced engineer. I developed Nook. I developed game consoles before. This is truly crap. Am I the only one who has been affected by this experience? Do I just suck up this rip off? Love to hear what others think
and if there is some kind of compensation possible from Microsoft at least for the first two marketing blunders.

I have tried that and everytime i do it says there is already an account created, can you walk me through step by step on system

if you added a gold membership to your account only you can use it. for other profiles to use a gold membership that gamertag must be signed in and then payment or prepaid card can be used to activate gold.

 

1. Was not surprised, add a 2 or 4 TB HD, I will probably add a 2.

2. Was surprised but it is not important to us, wife is the only one who changed hers.

3. We got our first one (that died) at Best Buy and the kid there warned us of this and we spent three days prepping it for Xmas. It was very frustrating the second time around, from Amazon, as we had been teased by the first one. I think Unity took like
2.5 days. Now that we have all the apps up and running and of course the games, we love the thing. I hope that yours works out for you!

 

When you get done adding up both the room taken for the OS, the installed apps, the back up for the OS and the memory cache (which I've heard is 30GB), it's not beyond reason to use up that much space.

And let me get this straight, you set up a new account for yourself and let your kid set the name, change the name because you let your kid set your gamertag and they put in a typo, and then you don't like it so you opt to change it again? The way it's
supposed to work is if you set up a new account you are given a randomly generated gamertag and then you have 1 free gamertag change if you change it within the first 30 days. Not sure why you expect to be held to a different standard than everyone else.
You said yourself, YOU didn't like it and wanted to change it, so holding MS responsible for your vanity decision shouldn't be their responsibility.

Installing games to the HDD is a fact of life moving forward. People want 1080p (or better) and 60fps, and there isn't an ODD on that planet that can push that for gaming. The games need to be installed to a HDD. If you're taking to long to install a
game I would take a good long look at your network first and your console last. Remember, when you install games you are getting the core game itself from the disc and then your system is downloading the online updates and extra content at the same time.
So if it's been as long as you say, I would run a Detailed Network Statistics test, found in your Network Settings menu, and see what that has to say. Maybe try switching from wireless to wired, if you're not already.
