  1. Disabled Veteran Needs Help With Issue Of Getting Kicked Off XBox Live 25+ Times Per Day

I am a Disabled Veteran who was given an Xbox 360 in an attempt to help me with my hand/eye coordination due to a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) I sustained while serving as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. But I am having
a LOT of problems now just trying to stay connected to Xbox Live long enough to even play for more than 3 - 4 minutes at a time before getting a "Disconnected From Xbox Live" message on the screen. I have explained it all in detail for you below, as I noticed
that you have requested that anyone asking for help do so with details rather than just generalities. I do apologize though if I have given too much info. I just tried to be as thorough as possible so that I could possibly receive help as soon as possible.
After five weeks of this happening between twenty to twenty-five times a day, I just can't take this much longer. I just hope that someone can help me.

    History Of The Problem:

I used to have no problem with getting disconnected from Xbox Live at all. It was as solid as you could ever hope for. But, then, all of a sudden five weeks ago I started getting disconnected over and over again. It first started happening on Christmas
Day when I was trying to play the Destiny game my son gave me for Christmas. As it continued happening for the past month or so, at first I only thought it was the Destiny game that was causing it. But then I started playing my other games on Live in multiplayer
mode and was getting kicked off as well just as bad and as often. I have tried everything that I personally know to do, have read every post and thread that I can find as well, but somehow I just cannot figure out what to do. Someone, please help me!

Steps I Have Tried Thus Far To Correct Problem:

    - My Xbox had always used Wireless connectivity with no problems, but after having these disconnected problems for a couple of weeks, I switched to a Wired connectivity, first trying a CAT-5E Ethernet cable and then eventually switching to a CAT-6
cable, in an attempt to see if that would fix it.

    - When those two cabes did not correct the problem, I then tried switching ports by using the instructions on your web site, and switched the CAT-6 cable back and forth to different Ethernet plugins on both my modem/router and on the back of my Xbox
as well. But that too was to no avail.

    - Next, I went through the steps shown on your web site concerning checking the Connection Info by checking it with my Xbox settings. Upon doing that, it did come back once and said this, "Because of a setting on your router or modem, your NAT
Type is Moderate. This may cause problems with multiplayer games and chat. Visit
www.xbox.com/nat-help for more help and info."
I did this and followed the instructions all the way through and upon doing this, for a brief while I could stay on for maybe 15 - 20 minutes at a
time before getting the Disconnected From Xbox Live message. But then, after only a short while, it started happening again with just as much frequency. And, although I am still getting kicked off over and over again, upon following the previous steps mentioned
above to check my Connection Info on several occasions, I have not received the NAT Type message again at all.

Listed Below Is All The Information You Requested To Be Given In A Posting Here For Help:

Disabled Veteran Needs Help With Issue Of Getting Kicked Off XBox Live 25+ Times Per Day

    Hello SBGParatrooper,

Unfortunately many people have been reporting of having issues with your particular gateway (router/modem) at hand. The problem may be lying within your network device. Issues have ranged from intermittent disconnections while connected to Xbox Live or receiving
several different errors when connecting to Xbox Live.

    As quoted below from http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/...ms-gateways/technicolor/f/4046/t/1444840.aspx

Here are the Known Issues for the Technicolor
    TC8305C

"Lag and intermittent disconnections may occur, with no permanent fix known at this time. We are currently working with Comcast towards a resolution.

High Firewall settings on this device can cause a number of errors on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. We have seen "High packet loss" errors on the Xbox One and several potential errors on the 360 including "MTU", "Internet error", "Live connection".
Should any of these errors occur we suggest disabling or setting the firewall to low.

XB1R HADES: Update: (12/24/2014): At this time there is currently no guaranteed fix for these issues and there may not be a fix for some time. This is a firmware issue with the device and not something that
Xbox can fix on our end. At this time the best suggestion we can make would be to
replace the gateway with a different brand. Currently the Arris gateways also share similar issues as well."

I highlighted in blue what you should try, However, you can also try port forwarding (if you haven't done so already). If none of these solutions are resolved, you may need to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) regarding your issue and get your
gateway replaced with a different brand or model or you can purchase your own, if available.

  5. heldbowl3,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my request for help. I sincerely appreciate it! After all of the frustrations that I have experienced, trust me, I am willing to accept any suggestions and help that I can receive. I will do what you have
suggested and see if I can get my ISP to switch out my router for a different model. I hope they will any way since I cannot afford to purchase a new router on my own.

    Take Care,

  6. Here is a follow up to the above posts and the suggestions offered to me: After I received the suggestions, I first made sure that my firewall setting was set to Low, which it was already. Then, I set up Port Forwarding with a dedicated IP address for my
Xbox 360. Everything set up fine and initially I thought that it was actually going to work for me and I was actually going to get to play Destiny without wanting to scream for once. But after just a few minutes, it went right back to doing the same irritating
disconnects that it was doing before!

Listed below is an example of what my afternoon was like for the next 3 hours. Please remember, all times listed below are ONLY for how long I was able to actually be online playing Destiny. The time that it took me to just get back into Xbox Live and Destiny
to play the game again are not even listed! Each of those times to get back into the game were from between 3 minutes to 25 minutes each!

    - Got to play Destiny for about 10 minutes, then...

    - Received a 'hare' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 5 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 10 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'cattle' error message (Disconnected from Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 30 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 8 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'newt' error message (Disconnected from Xbox Live), then...

    - I got fed up with it all and went and unplugged my router for 30 seconds and then plugged it back in again. Upon doing that, once I was able to sign back into Xbox Live again, I was actually able to play Destiny for a whopping 55 minutes straight before
being kicked off of Xbox Live once again with a 'hawk' error message! Then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 30 seconds, then...

    - Received another 'hawk' error message (Kicked off of Xbox Live yet again!), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 12 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 6 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 10 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 12 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 8 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I finally got to play for a whopping 19 Minutes! Then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 3 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 25 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I got to play for 9 seconds, then...

    - Received a 'caterpillar' error message (Disconnected from my game, but not off of Xbox Live), then...

    - After signing back in again, I actually got to play for a huge 21 Minutes, then...

    - I received yet another 'caterpillar' error message, so I finally had had enough and screamed and threw my controller down and turned the dumb Xbox machine off!!!!

Now Remember! All of this was just ONE afternoon in a space of only 3 hours! I have had to deal with this exact same kind of trouble for the past 5 Weeks, ever since I was given the Destiny game for a Christmas present!

I just hope that my taking my time to type out all of my problems with such detail will help someone else who is going through the exact same thing, and maybe, just maybe, will get someone's attention who has the power to help all of us players who are so
frustrated here lately just trying to stay connected to both Xbox Live and to Destiny as well.

Sadly, in my case, this was supposed to have been an exercise in helping me regain my hand/eye coordination in an effort to help speed up my healing. Truthfully though, I don't think that it is working too well with all these disconnects!! Well, I guess
it's a good thing then that I have an appointment tomorrow at the VA Hospital! LOL!

    Thanks For Any Help,

    SGT. Steve

    Greetings SGT.Steve!

To make a long story short.

The problem with Comcast's Technicolor TC8305C, and connectivity to Xbox Live, could for the first time be observed in October last year, with the release of firmware revision, 01.E6.01.22.12 (October 22, 2014), along with its predecessor's, 01.E6.00.31
(September 14, 2014), and 01.E6.01.22.06 (August 26, 2014), and have been an ongoing issue ever since.

Since October, I've helped numerous of Xbox Live users, getting back to a stable connection to Live.

My recommendation is to configure your TC8305C in bridge mode. Bridge mode will make your gateway act as standard modem, without the implementation of NAT, DHCP, nor Wireless functionality. You will still need a router that can perform NAT operation, along
with DHCP and Wireless capability, so that you can connect multiple devices on your local network, and to the Internet-at-large.

Contact your ISP, and have them know about your situation, and ask them to configure your gateway in bridge mode. You can then, by your own choice, select from a wide range of different wireless routers, and which are known to work seamlessly with Xbox Live.

If you need any further help with the selection of different wireless routers, please let us know.

    Good luck!
