    Dirty laser? How to clean?

I've got problems with my xBox One. The player won't read the gamediscs properly so the games won't load.

I've removed dusts from the interior of the console, but that didn't help. I suspect a dirty laser og some other faults that makes the console unuseable.

I've been told to clean the laser/ reader, but how do I do that? Also what is the best means to clean. Maybe using some fluid or utensils?

I'd appresiate all the help and hand-helding I can get.

    In advance thank you!

    :)

    Dirty laser? How to clean?

I've also tried resets and power cuts by removing the socket from the power supply in the wall, but must admit that I haven't tried a factory reset. Is that through the hole with a lock-icon at the back a bit to the right of all the connector slots?
No, that's just a place to add a physical lock to your console. You can find stepson how to factory reset the console at https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults

    Dirty laser? How to clean?

    Hi Tom,

Thank you for coming to the Xbox forums. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot this issue.

There is no way to clean the laser diode or any other internal components without opening up the Xbox and we do not advise you to do that or take it somewhere to do it for you.

It's possible that we can troubleshoot the issue of disc's not reading properly. Can you explain with more detail what happens when trying to start or download a game from a disc? Have you tried any Xbox 360 games, DVD's, or Blu-Ray movies?

What steps have you already taken to get this resolved as far as restarts, power cycling, factory resets?

Give us some more information so we can try to troubleshoot the issue to get it resolved or if you will need to send in the console for repair.

If you have enough space on your external HDD, copy everything there from inside the Xbox.

Make sure your saved games are in the cloud. Then on the new one just set your default drive to the external

Open Settings on the Xbox One.

    Open the System tab.

    Select Storage.

    Select the internal drive.

    Select Transfer.

Select items you plan to transfer. If moving all items, choose Select all.

Choose Copy selected to copy the items between drives.

To move the items, select Move.

    Choose the Ext. drive.

Press Copy or Move to transfer.

After transferring your games to an external hard drive, plug it into the new Xbox One.

Stored should appear in your library.

    Dirty laser? How to clean?

Personally, I can only recommend that you send your Xbox to maintenance, they will take care of giving an appropriate treatment to your Xbox, in this case they will clean your laser because otherwise, sending it with "other" specialists can be a bad idea,
it could damage it, contact to support your country, and inform what the procedure is.

    Dirty laser? How to clean?

    Hi Tom,

Thank you for the update. Glad to hear that you got a good deal for an Xbox One X. I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Transferring games from one Xbox to another can be accomplished in two ways. The first way is to copy all of your games on external hard drives like you have, and then simply plug it in to the new Xbox. Your games will be displayed in your game library on
the new Xbox under external storage and should be ready to launch when signed into the account that owns the games. The second way is through a Network transfer. Network transfer lets one Xbox console copy games and apps from another console, so long as they’re
on the same home network. Copying this way can be faster than downloading another copy of the same game or app.

Any Xbox One (original Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X) can be either the source or the destination console.

    1. On the Xbox you want to copy from, go to Settings >
      Network
      > Network transfer and check the box to allow network transfer. This makes that Xbox visible to other consoles on the same network.
    2. Once you’ve allowed transferring from the “host” Xbox, turn on the console onto which you’ll be copying games and apps, and go to the same settings page. Your host Xbox should be listed.
    3. Select the Xbox you want to copy from, choose the items to copy, then select
      Copy selected
      .
