You wont see games designed for earlier versions of DirectX getting a boost from version 12 unless they add specific calls to that game.

You can see it on PC games which support both versions 9 and 11 (people pretty much ignored 10.)

Batman Arkham City for example looks near identical when using the two different DirectX versions. You need to look close to really spot the graphical difference. I thought how the smoke billowed around Batman in the DX11 version was amazing.

In short you'll only see great improvement with DirectX 12 with games that are specifically designed for it.

    :)

I'm wondering how easy it would be to update an existing game to take advantage of DX12. Probably more money to do than it is worth though so unlikely to happen.

This again? Really? Those that know anything about programming dismissed DX12 long ago as having any significant impact. Even Phil Spencer said it's nothing significant.

    www.dualshockers.com/.../phil-spencer-directx-12-not-a-massive-change-for-xbox-one-explains-expectations-from-1st-party-studios

If you really think it's going to have any kind of significant impact then you're going to be seriously disappointed. That's why consoles this gen don't have very powerful processors by any means; they're just not that big of a factor in gaming. Even within
PC's, any intelligent gamer knows that it's a complete waste of money to try and get a top of the line processor.

It's pointless, the main person arguing against (fooxman) outright said that the cpu couldn't affect fps on page two of this thread, needless to say he quickly edited both posts after I replied.

This is what your up against.

  9. That's not entirely true. It's very much game dependant. As an example you can get a 15fps boost by upgrading from an AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition overclocked to 4.2ghz to an i5 3570k running at base clocks in Skyrim (it's even more important to have
a good CPU when modding the game). I know this from personal experience modifying the game extensively as a screenshot artist. MMO's and RTS's benefit from a good CPU also.

You certainly don't need to rush out and buy the latest Intel offering but a good CPU goes a long way over time with a PC.

I have not edited any posts in this thread, and have been arguing that freeing up CPU increases FPS, or you could fill the screen with more zombies like DR3. Any one who read my posts would know I would never say that. I even started a thread on that topic
which got removed due to duplication with this thread.

    hence why you said

"Lol the gains in fps were a direct result of freeing up the cpu it even says as much."

    and I replied with

"The freeing up the CPU to gain FPS is what we are talking about or am I going mad ?

at least we agree DirectX12 :)"

I think you just shot yourself in the foot Jambo

  11. You do realise it wasn't only us in this thread right?

Lol the conversation doesn't even make sense now it's edited.

@Lestat DX12 is making multicore processors run the code more evenly across all cores, not how they currently work - where they run code mainly on core 0 and then multi thread across the rest of the cores. It results in core 0 getting very hot and it bottlenecks
on core 0 and inefficiently over spills to the rest.

DX12 has solved this by spreading the load across all cores, reducing heat and increasing performance. As you know modern chips can self regulate their hz allowing it to increase performance by consuming the same power but increasing data output. This is
a huge for PC's as they should be able to increase res while maintaining FPS or increase FPS while maintaining res.

people are arguing that Xbox wont be able to use this to its advantage, and as you can see I am arguing it will.

^^I totally believe Xbox will be able to use this to it's advantage ( however big or small I don't know ) I mean if it wasn't going to change things for the better why would they even bother releasing it?

I think the only way to know how big a deal this will be is after developers are able to compare the before and after. I'm sure it will make a difference. How big a difference remains to be seen.
