Discus and support DirectX12 in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; It won't be supporting 4k gaming in any meaningful way. Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by ForestTroll05, Apr 18, 2014.

2. Maybe some space-invaders game, but the HDMI cord only handles maximum 4K 30fps.

3. Not to mention 4k resolutions bring titans to there knees, ur talking 30fps on battlefield from a gfx that costs nearly twice what the xbox 1 does on its own.

There is more to graphics than numbers that only idiotic fanboys, looking for anything to have one up on fans of a rival platform, care about.

5.
So if DirectX12 can make graphics slightly better, that's important.
I've always said resolution does not matter and I still feel that way. I do however like to see games visually improve, but whether a game is 1080p or 720p does not matter to me. I don't think anyone here would complain about
the Xbox One improving. If Microsoft want to improve their console, ok good, I'm all for it.

7. So if "GAME A" is in development and destined for 720p, but they use DirectX12 to improve the resolution to 1080p, (more than double the pixels), the game is better?

The actual gameplay is the same, but the improved graphics mean that it is a slightly better game?

No, it just looks better, the game plays the same, a good game is a good game.

9. Which is why graphics don't really matter as much as the gameplay itself. DirectX12 ;)

I think what people mean, me included, is the game would look better left at 720p with more things added. But yeah that isn't going to improve the game, just look a little better. But always pushing games to 1080p makes it a massive additional strain on
the system without the same rewards in appearance. And as some games have shown, when pushed to 1080p (manufacturer leaning perhaps) add in FPS drops and such.

11. i think if "GAME A" was in development but midway through development they decided to program a dx12 version in parallel so that you ended up with 2 versions.

Same game, same price. One @720p, one @1080p

Every single one of you would buy the 1080p version.

Given they still run at the same FPS and stable, sure why not. If 720p version was cheaper I would go for that one however. My screen is only 42" though and I sit around 3 metres from it so the difference is minimal to me. I usually rip my Blu Rays to 720p
too to take up less HD space on my HTPC.

Surface, you might be right, but it's an unlikely scenario to begin with. Besides, who's to say we won't wait for reviews of each, only to find out that the game with higher resolution suffers from framerate drops and screen tears? Which would we get then?

Really, the discussion regarding graphics is completely relative and subjective to each and everyone's views - in other words, there's no "right" side. There's just your side and my side. To top it all off, we all see things differently... Literally. My
shade of what's red may not seem as red to you for example. Your eyes might be more trained to catch something that mine can't. And so on...

One big mistake I see people making is thinking a games is nothing but graphics. Boy they couldn't be more wrong. The CPU does a whole lot more and a lot of times it has to wait on the graphics to display on the screen. DX12 should really help the X1 in
speeding up the graphics and this in turn will help the rest of the game run smoother/faster if need be.

15. So long as it makes even the slightest of improvement, there is nothing to not be grateful for. I mean my understanding is weak and I don't know much about it but what I do know, is that (like already pointed out) a good game is a good game. Regardless of
minimal differences.
