    DX12 might be great for first party games or exclusives but what about multi-platform titles?

    Are developers really going to put effort into getting the best from DX12 if other platforms are't going to be using it. Will the PS4 support it, it's rumoured to be Windows 8 exclusive on the PC.

    So potentially one console wont support it and neither will the most used PC operating system.

    Are developers really going to get the best out of DX12 when the One will also support DX11? More likely I expect we'll be getting the visual equivalent of a Kinect lean.

    ^ PS4 won't use it. It already has its own API. DirectX is for Windows and Xbox only.

    Does it matter if the PS4 doesn't use it? Surely the devs would work with it for Xbox and use the Sony system for Sony versions? Just asking as I know little about the development process?

    ^ No, it doesn't matter. For Xbox devs will use DirectX and for PS4 devs will use the PS4 API.

    Like others I don't understand it all but I read an article of OXM and it seemed to me from what they said is DX12 won't mean .. "Vastly improved visuals" ...they will improve but it's more a case developers will find it a lot easier to work with?

    I could be wrong but that's how I read it.

    Yeah I am very little in the understanding of it all too. Vote makes a fair point though, and I guess a lot of this will rely on developers preference.

    PS4 does support DirectX 11 though, so it isn't as if all people developing for the console need to use its API.

    So again. You have three machines Xbox One, PS4 and PC (with Windows 7 and 8) that support DirectX 11.

    Only two that will support DirectX 12, the One and the PC with Windows 8.

    Multi-platform developers are going to go with the API that is supported on the most platforms. And that is Direct X 11.

    Though of course I am unaware if the Xbox One supports OpenGL, I can't imagine that it doesn't. So that could end up being the go to option.

    Not because your right or wrong, just that it goes way way over my tiny head. I get the bit about different companies supporting specific sources and going off that basis alone I can see what you mean about DX11 being the developers preferred choice due
    to it being supported by most platforms.

    That much I am understanding properly, right?
