Direct Connecting Two XBox Ones using a Crossover Cable

There is all sorts of information for how to connect two Xbox Ones together without an internet connection available on line, yet none of them seem to work. My friend and I have tried:

Using a home wireless network

Direct connecting with standard ethernet cables through a hub and router

Using a crossover cable that was built and tested by a local reputable electronics shop

I understand that we both have to have the same games, which supports multiplayer without the Xbox Live option and with the same updates installed. We have purchased Diablo 3, Gears of War 4, and Assassin's Creed Unity with the hope of being able to co-op
play without the need for an internet connection. So far nothing.

My friend says that he saw somewhere online that Microsoft removed the ability to direct connect with System Link or a crossover ethernet cable and that Blizzard was annoyed at having to re-work several games, but I haven't found this mention.

Any ideas? Being able to co-op play with my next door neighbor / Army buddy is the whole reason I bought an Xbox One X.

Problems with System Linking

Hi Geoffrey,

Its Xbox 360 and I'm following Method 1: Connect two Xbox 36 consoles together (wired connection) and I'm using an Ethernet crossover cable but still getting the issue described above.

Wondering if I need to use a crossover cable or just an ordinary Ethernet cable.

Also are there any settings I should be using/changing on the Xbox 360 to stop the consoles losing sync?

You can use either a crossover cable or a straight through cable (you get a straight through cable with the Xbox 360 and Xbox1)

The 360 is different to the original Xbox in that its network card can detect what is on the other end of the cable and "crossover" the connection itself if needs be even if you don't have a crossover cable

So in short you can use either a straight or crossover cable for the 360 both will work

Keep in mind! If this is a new cable you picked up somewhere around the house...

A standard sCat-5 cable is used to connect a computer to a switch; connecting two PCs together requires a Cat-5 crossover cable, while a Cat-5 roll-over cable connects a PC to a router.

The 360 system link page says you need an ethernet crossover cable that allows you to connect 2 consoles to themselves.

Can I use this cable and connect my xbox one and 360 or do I need a router and normal ethernet cables?
